STUFF SHE “KNOWS”!

Have I mentioned that I had the privilege and honour of representing our country at World Championships?!?

I still feel like it was a fever dream! I can’t even begin to put words together and I’ve been home for a hot minute.

I got to go for daily wanders, listen to the LOUDEST cicadas, drink awful coffee, eat all the treats, play a ton of volleyball and even survive a two day lockdown for a typhoon!

No one told me as a kid that this path was an option, women in sports just wasn’t a thing. Especially those of us with kids and husbands and all that jazz. But here we are, not only moms but women with disabilities. Defying the odds and writing our own destiny one day at a time.

While we didn’t make the podium, a fourth place finish is still respectable and I’m proud of us.

Now to keep working as hard as I can to make the rosters next season and keep travelling with this crew. If you are interested in training with me here in Halifax, shoot me a DM.

Next up, Canoe/kayak Nationals and then back to the sitting volleyball content!

See you out there, mwah 😍

do you learn more from the big wins or the losses along the way?

it’s easy to get caught up in the outcome, and after just missing the podium emotions are always high. taking time to decompress, reflect, pinpointing the gaps, and then getting after them is what separates the greats from the rest.

here’s to leaning into connection and getting back to the grind together (but separately across the country for now).

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, @canadawsittingvb is just getting started 🔥.

some faves from 🇨🇳✨

a 4th place finish can have a lot of perception and feeling wrapped into it..but at the end of the day I’m just real proud of this team and myself for reaching the top 4. 💖🥹 I’ve done this long enough that I can appreciate the journey with a lot of perspective. 🫶🏼 there is always much to learn and I look forward to continuing to improve. ❤️‍🔥

4th place.

I’ve rewritten this caption more times than I can count because I still don’t know how I feel.

I think it’s because I’m trying to hold space for two emotions that seem to contradict each other.

I’m incredibly proud.
And I’m incredibly disappointed.

A year ago, I don’t think many people would’ve expected us to be competing with the best teams in the world. We’ve grown so much. New teammates have stepped into huge roles, we’ve learned to trust each other, and we’ve gone from losing games to competing for a podium place.

That deserves to be celebrated.

But I’d be lying if I said this tournament didn’t hurt too.

We had two opportunities to qualify for the LA28 Paralympic Games, and we let them slip away.

I’ve gone back and forth asking myself whether we crumbled under the pressure… or whether we’re just not ready yet.

Maybe it’s a bit of both.

As much as I wish I could wrap this up with a neat, inspiring ending, the truth is I’m still sitting with it.

Because when you care this much, you’re supposed to hurt.

You don’t dedicate years of your life to something and walk away unaffected.

The silver lining is that this feeling won’t last forever, but I hope I never forget it 🥲

I want to remember exactly how this feels the next time training gets hard. The next time I’m tired, sore, or questioning whether one more rep really matters.

Because it does.

The thing about being a competitive athlete is that I don’t want success to come easy. If it did, it wouldn’t mean as much. The challenge is what makes chasing it worthwhile.

So while 4th place hurts today, it also gives us something incredibly valuable: clarity.

We know exactly where the gap is.

Now it’s our job to close it.

This offseason won’t be about dwelling on what we lost. It’ll be about earning what comes next. Every lift, every practice, every rep is building toward one goal: showing up next year at the Para Pan American Games in Lima 🇵🇪 ready to battle to qualify for LA28.

This isn’t the ending I had hoped for.

It’s just another chapter in the story we’re still writing as a team.

We’ll be back. And next time, we’ll be ready 🏐🇨🇦

Proud of 🇨🇦 sitting volleyball teams representing Canada on the world stage with grit!

The women finished fourth and the men were 15th overall.

Watch for these teams at the Parapan Am Games next year where they have another chance to qualify for LA 28. @cdnparalympics
