We are still full from the Roux weekend thanks to all the amazing women, partners and collaborators that showed up to make the weekend possible. We ate well and connected over tomato cake, lumpia, tacos, new roux merch, pumpkin spice, mini totes, colorful cocktails, fine wine, tarot, secret sauces and way too many takeaway boxes. We are so grateful for those who came out to support the incredible women who make food and drink culture so special. 🥂

Another big high five to our partners:
@alaskaair for bringing our inspiring participants to PDX
@opentable for being the host platform for our experiences and ensuring every diner was a winner
@prosperportland for the continued partnership on the Secret Sauce Panel highlighting the local food community, founders, and brands
@portlandeventsandfilmoffice for believing in this event and helping it grow
@painterlandsisters for providing our chefs the BEST yogurt to elevate our featured dishes
@traveloregon for empowering Roux to tell the story of this city and state’s abundant food and drink

There are vegan spots where I can safely say that everything on the menu is outstanding, delicious and worthy, and it’s really just a matter of mood at the moment and personal preferences. Did a back-to-back this week as two such places in PDX: @dirtylettucepdx and @katesicecream, because sometimes a killer meal needs a killer sweet treat as a finishing touch.
🌱
In my typical overwhelmed by Portland options fashion, I veered to Dirty Lettuce at the last second because I convinced myself I needed the Infamous Bowl full of mashed potatoes and gravy topped with popcorn chikn and Cajun corn and chz, etc.
Comfort deluxe. But, when ordering as asking about options I hadn’t tried before, I was steered to the Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich, which I paired with a side of their super legit Coleslaw. I already know Dirty Lettuce reigns with their fried chicken recipe, but as advised the crispy bacon on this baddie took it over the top, especially when combined with the garlicky herb mayo. Just the right amount to save a little space for what was to come.
🌱
Kate’s is another ‘can do no wrong’ spot. A plethora of all vegan ice cream flavors and specials, waffle cones and toppings, ice cream sammies, pints, c’mon now, you’d have to dislike ice cream entirely. Buuuut, this was a twice annual special week, with the epic Chocolaco offered in classic peanut or pumpkin spice flavors. The utter joy of working my way through this small bite by small bite as I people watched on a bench was a just right touch to a seriously long day. If you’re in PDX today I think it’s the last day of these Chocolacos until the next semi-annual round, so go get some unless you’re too full from the @circlevportland vegan food fest. And of course, if you’re not in Portland for that, you might be luckier than me and made it to the @bellinghamvegfest that once again has a great lineup on a beautiful sunny day. #dirtylettuce #katesicecream #pdxvegan #seattleveganeats #freepalestine🇵🇸
