Our MA '26 Alumni @katherine___fu and @julia_ambros_ are featured in @newenglandartnews! They will be joining @thesteelyard for their artist-in-residence program in September. Congratulations, we're so excited to see your work! Julia and Katherine were an integral part of TLAD's collaboration with The Steel Yard in the pilot year of Steel Yardlings, which offers free art instruction to children of community members in class at The Steel Yard and to the public at various events throughout the year. We're excited to offer this collaboration again with our new cohort of grad students, stay tuned! Link in bio 🔥

The Steel Yard, Providence’s distinctive industrial arts space, just announced the artists who will be taking part in its 2026-2027 residency program. For New England Art News today, I have a piece about this important program and exclusive interviews with three incoming residents as well as Steel Yard staff. Incoming residents Julia Inés Ambros, Enid Corcoran, and Katherine Fu are all talented recent RISD alums who have connections with the Yard as teachers, in fabrication, and in administration. Read the piece to learn more about them and their hopes for their year of in-depth art making at this special place. Through August 20, work by current Steel Yard residents is also on view at Make Do Studios. The article is available at the link in my Instagram story as well as at www.newenglandartnews.com, linked in my bio.

💖We’re still reminiscing on this Valentine’s Day celebration at the Steel Yard! Conversation Heart Crafting, was an all-ages community event inside the Steel Yard ceramic studio. Participants crafted wearable conversation heart pins with felt, buttons, paper, and galore with a message of love and care. Thanks Katherine and Julia for facilitating a great event! 💖

In September the @tladrisd 25-26 MA cohort was joined by recent TLAD alum (2025), Ellie (@elliecashmandesign), who shared her thesis research on Daily Creative Practice and how she’s continuing on the research journey. We are fortunate that Ellie is still local in RI and was able to join us in person. Thank you, Ellie, for taking the time to share with us!

My internship with Directcreate, though just a month long, left me with a heart overflowing with memories. It was truly an incredible experience, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. Through it, I met so many wonderful people and learned an incredible amount. I gained so much knowledge and grew in ways I didn't expect. Now, after spending every single day with them, they feel so far away. I miss them all so much. It's hard to put into words how deeply I already miss everyone and the time we shared. . . . . . . . #reelkarofeelkaro #relatable #foryoupage #astheticedits #jaipur #internship #intern #college

Happy Tuesday friends! Today we welcome an exploration of femininity by @fuck.atherine: ““Ewe” revisits my girlhood, or the lack thereof. The piece consists of thirteen lambs, each lamb representing a year. Thirteen is the age at which I got my first period. Since then, I’ve felt increasingly distanced from the idea of being a woman and the biological duty that comes with having a female biology. “Ewe” plays on the word ‘ewe’, meaning ‘female sheep’, and its homonym ‘ew’ to balance the reality of childhood with the trauma and blood horror of receiving womanhood, at such a young age. Along with ideas of girl as woman and as sacrificial martyr, "Ewe" touches upon early realizations of discomfort that extend past just the physical, ponderings of transness that perhaps occur much earlier than one can find words for. “ Medium: newspaper, air dry Sculpey, akua ink, rubber block, toilet paper, tissues ⭐️🐑: @fuck.atherine @tupperware.bats
