Earlier this year I found myself in a magical little town in the deep south at a vortex of mostly Creole, Cajun, and Canadian lineage. There I had the pleasure of learning, building, and playing with some of the finest people I have ever met - a deeply connected community of artists, visionaries, and souls so full of compassion at that I didnt want to leave.

@nunu.arts.culture was at epicenter, a space to gather and feel at home with so many people from different walks of life, and be inspired by the humility and talent of the individuals drawn to its dynamic environment. Something was cookin' all the time - literal food, but also live music, art classes, workshops,  .. etc, and if it wasnt happening it was being planned.

The main experience that brought and kept me there was being part of a bamboo revival, igniting a spark that most likely existed deep in my ancestral genetics. Having worked with different mediums over the years, bamboo stands out as the most flexible, strong (especially when joined together), sustainable (its the fastest growing plant), lightweight, and naturally aesthetic materials to build with.

Led by visual artist Kathleen Whitehurst @kathleendearmas and powered by volunteers, farmers, artists, and builders, we re-discovered the simplicity of harvesting, processing, and building by the end with the expertise of a bamboo master @jwolfdesign (he's built competition winning bamboo frame bikes) We built and we continue to build cool stuff, but more than anything we're actively building a community of creators to inspire a self sufficient future.

Couldnt fit even close to everything I want to be able to share, so there will be more to follow.. Check out the bio links at @canopyspirits and please donate to the community & cause if you can. We made the news! Big things in the works. Much love ♡
