1/2 Arc’teryx Academy Prep Series — Colorado

A group of climbers gathered together to learn new skills, approaching both the wall and one another with curiosity. Arc’teryx athletes @kailightner and @mayafm3 led the day by excellent example — offering advice and a strong belay.

A delight of a day, it was.

Guide’s view | Black Canyon of the Gunnison rock climbing

This stunning, often underrated National Park is one hour drive from Ouray, CO and in our opinion one of Colorado’s finest multi-pitch adventure climbing destinations.

🧗‍♀️Route shown is rated 5.10/ 7 pitches.

Two of our IFMGA/AMGA professionals were present to guide this young and talented climber successfully to the top, and safely rappel down.

Our guides bring unmatched experience climbing in the Black Canyon. Get in touch if you are ready for this kind of adventure!

Season goes until October; there’s plenty time left to do this.

August was the perfect segway into the new season and end of the year🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️
.

.
Many changes and many important conversations were had this month.

I’m in this “in between” where I don’t know what’s to come, but I’m not afraid of the unknown and I know what I want…Where I didn’t have second thoughts and rushing excitement overturned my belly because it just felt right, it felt like gods way.

Change is good and getting out of your comfort zone is even better!
I am truly so looking forward to the next few months🙂‍↕️🍂✨

SOUND ON - Ellie has some advice for her brother.

Ellie climbing the Alcove in Ouray and giving her older brother some encouragement from below.

Guide Katie Beringer caught some of the best moments: “She’d say, ‘I can’t!!!’ Then, wait… no, I can!” When things got a little scary, Ellie would stop, blow out her imaginary candles, take a breath, and keep climbing. Her mantra for the day: “I can do hard things.”

And she did.

Big brother Everett made it to the top of Groove Tube, 5.9, 100 feet.

Climbing gives kids more than time on the wall; it builds balance, coordination, agility, and confidence along the way.

Pretty good reminder that sometimes courage sounds like, “Wait… no I can!

What happens when you take a group of kids camping for the very first time?

Over three days in the Uintas, we introduced six kids from @bgcsaltlake to backpacking, rock climbing, belaying, knot-tying, meal prep, fire making/safety, first-aid, and Leave No Trace basics. This is exactly why we do this, creating outdoor experiences that aren’t always easy to access, and making sure more kids get the chance to have them.

Huge thanks to our lead guide @katieberinger, as well as @bgcutah, @blackdiamond, @peakrefuel, @rei, @mymedicofficial, @gopro, and #BroncoWildfund for helping make this happen. 🙏

POV: You’re shuttling vehicles for guests on our Million Dollar Hiking Trek... and this is your office for the day. 🫎

Meet Mama Moose and the calf we affectionately nicknamed “Ouray.” ❤️

Our guide Katie captured this moment on July 6 while shuttling vehicles for our Million Dollar Trek near South Mineral and the Ice Lake area. We’d say that’s a pretty unforgettable commute.

Moments like this remind us why these mountains are so special. Nature has an incredible way of inspiring us with new life and quiet resilience.

If you’re lucky enough to spot a moose, especially a mother with her calf, give them plenty of space. The best wildlife encounters happen from a respectful distance.

Here’s to wild places, unforgettable days at work, and the privilege of sharing these mountains with our guests.

We are back! Today, 7/7 the wait is over. The Ouray Via Ferrata is open again. 🙌

After a temporary closure during the Gold Mountain Fire response, we’re excited to welcome climbers back to the canyon. The route was never affected by the fire, it closed so emergency crews could focus on protecting our community. While the Gold Mountain Fire continues to move north, we express our deep gratitude to all those who work day and night to keep our community safe!

Now it’s time to get back to cross soaring bridges, climb high above the Uncompahgre Gorge, and experience the excitement that makes the Ouray Via Ferrata one of Colorado’s most unforgettable adventures.

Meet Alyssa — 12 years old, hands-down the smallest of the @discoveradventurecamps campers, and an absolute force.
When we first got everyone fitted for packs at the club, I’ll be honest… I was a little concerned. Her backpacking pack was almost the same size as she was. But Alyssa put it on, kept wearing it around for no real reason, and once we hit the trail, she was all in.
She carried her gear more than a mile into camp without a single complaint. Then, when it came time to climb, there was a little fear at first. Totally understandable. But once she learned to trust the gear, the guides, and herself, she climbed every route on the wall — more than once.
Watching her push through something hard, trust the process, and come out the other side laughing and proud was exactly what Discovered Adventure Camps is all about.
Huge thanks to @blackdiamond for supporting this camp with climbing and cold-weather gear, @rei for providing climbing shoes and backpacking gear, and guide @katieberinger for helping create such a safe, positive, and empowering experience for these kids.
This is just the beginning.

We did it. Our first-ever overnight camp is in the books. 🏔️
Three days, two nights of camping, climbing, and backpacking in the Uintas — an intro to the backcountry built for 12–14 year-olds.
We teamed up with the @bgcsaltlake (Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake) to bring six incredible kids into the mountains for the very first time. Over three days, they learned to backpack, set up camp, cook, navigate, practice Leave No Trace, basic first aid, and so much more.
The stoke was unreal. This group of kids showed up, pushed themselves, and walked away with new skills and a whole new relationship with the outdoors. I’m beyond proud of what we built together.
None of this would’ve been possible without YOU and our partners. Huge thank you to our lead guide @katieberinger and @trevorglynos for capturing the event, the @bgcslc staff who supported and trusted us with their kids, @blackdiamond for the climbing and cold weather gear, @peakrefuel for the food, @rei for the rental camping gear, @mymedicofficial for the first aid kits, @gopro for some cameras and #broncowildfund for helping get this thing off the ground — your support is the reason Discovered Adventure Camps exists and the reason we can make an impact like this.
And this is just the start. We can’t wait to host many more camps and create outdoor adventure opportunities for so many more kids.
Stay tuned. 🤙
