Martha, Josh, yoni, Lilah, Sam, Katie, London, August 2024.

These are pictures of some of the amazing people I’ve met through my youth movement, @ljynetzer. I started going on camps with LJY when I 14 and it remained a huge part of my life until I was 25. Being given the gift of growing up in a Jewish youth movement changed me forever. It taught me about friendships that are romantic and the power of silliness. It taught me that every person is a whole world and is therefore innately valuable. It taught me to see everyone’s individual shine and to tell them that you see it. It taught me that music and prayer are one and the same and that the best way to wake up in the morning is to dance. Most of all it taught me that children and young people really are human treasure and they all deserve to be loved, respected, and heard.

The past 4 years since I left LJY I’ve found it hard to find a way to really feel the soul moving feeling of being part of a Jewish community. I’ve had some amazing experiences like having my Bat Mitzvah, holding Friday night dinners with friends, and attending Queer Yeshiva Friday night services. This (Jewish) year, though, I’m setting my own intention to carve out these moments for myself and commit - with this beautiful community I still have around me - to find my Jewish spark again.
