🌍 Thank you for an inspiring Reading Climate Festival 2026!
We’ve just wrapped two incredible workshops as part of this year’s Reading Climate Festival, and we’re deeply grateful to everyone who helped bring them to life.

✨ Your 2050 Ecotopia — a storytelling and imagination workshop exploring solarpunk futures, positive climate narratives, and collective creativity, co-created with @salacharlie - @intergalactic_post_box , @solarpunkldn , @nathalia_syam , with the support of @resourceproductions Productions & @screenberkshire .
🎨 Imagine Ecotopia — a creative futures workshop designed for children and families to explore hopeful, sustainable worlds through play and imagination.

Across both sessions, we were reminded of the power of storytelling as a tool for climate engagement, and how imagination can help communities see and shape better futures together.

A huge thank you to our collaborators and supporters: @readingcan , @visitrdg , @uniofreading @stantec @designnatureaction , @unibuiltenvironment , @katiepatrickhello , @hello.world.labs .

Big thank you as well to all our venue providers, organisers, volunteers, and partners who contributed time, energy, and care throughout the festival 💚
It’s been a privilege to be part of a wider collective effort bringing community-led creativity into the heart of Reading’s sustainability journey — especially in alignment with REDA’s Vision 2050 work.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who joined us for the workshops. Your ideas, stories, and energy are what made these sessions meaningful. We believe, more than ever, that imagination is infrastructure for change. 🌱

Day 14 | Shout Out Sunday

Meet Katie Patrick @katiepatrickhello

She built a dashboard in ONE DAY that would’ve cost $50K.

Her book is taught at Harvard.

She made $50K in two weeks.

But the real genius? She knows building the tool isn’t the hard part.

Getting people to actually care enough to use it? That’s the work.

I hope you enjoy some of the key takeaways from our 45 mins discussion. How hard is video editing?!

Becoming Visible — Day 15 | Katie Patrick reflections

When I first met Katie Patrick in 2007, I thought she had it all figured out. She was light years ahead—environmental engineer, Green Pages Founder, completely sure of herself.

So I was shocked when she told me: she wasn’t.

What struck me most: I’d spent years being in awe of someone who was, the whole time, doubting herself too.

The gap between how capable we look and how confident we feel? It’s big. And we don’t really talk about it. It’s especially difficult in sustainability where we don’t always have all the answers. It’s not that simple so neither is confidence.

Katie’s interview drops soon. She talks about how AI is actually complementing her environmental work (not replacing it), and where she found her footing.

If you’re in that gap—looking solid from the outside, not so much inside—this one’s for you.

🌿 IMAGINE ECOTOPIA FOR KIDS & FAMILIES 🎨

What happens when children are invited to imagine the future instead of fearing it?

As part of Reading Climate Festival, Cinergy Studios is curating a creative futures workshop for children and families exploring ecology, storytelling, imagination and collaborative art-making.

Together, participants will help build the Future of Reading Wall — a public artwork imagining kinder, greener and more connected futures for Reading through drawings, paintings, poems and future messages.

Developed in collaboration with @designnatureaction and The University of the @unibuiltenvironment , and inspired by the Climate Action Design School @hello.world.labs created by environmental engineer @katiepatrickhello , the workshop forms part of the wider Imagine Ecotopia programme for Reading schools and communities.

The workshops also connect with REDA’s Vision 2050 initiative, developed alongside the @uniofreading and @stantec helping ensure community imagination and creativity remain part of Reading’s long-term sustainability conversation 🌱

📍 Forbury Gardens, Reading
📅 Sunday 14th June 2026
🎟 Free tickets via Eventbrite — link in bio

Huge thanks to REDA @visitrdg for supporting these community-led creative initiatives.

Inspired by the work of environmental engineer and designer @katiepatrickhello and her Climate Action Design School 🌍

From "Dreading the Ride" to "Truly Transformative"...Safe streets change everything! 💛🚲🙌

For Katie, a car-free parent in Mountain View, El Camino Real isn’t just a road—it’s part of her daily life. But before the new protected bike lane on El Camino Real, she felt stressed every time she biked with her child.

Today, those same trips feel "safe, easy, and accessible."

"The new protected bike lane has been truly transformative," Katie says. "Trips that once felt daunting now feel safe, easy, and accessible. It hasn’t just changed how I travel—it’s changed how I feel moving through my community."

Safer streets make car-free living possible for families like Katie’s, but these changes don’t happen by accident. They happen because of your support.

Your donation directly funds:
✅ Advocacy for protected bike infrastructure
✅ Programs that make car-free living possible
✅ Safer streets for the next generation of riders

Help us keep the momentum going. Join us in making Silicon Valley a better place to live & ride!

We can infill our suburban sprawl! We can make agriculture local vertically! We can make mixed-use, mixed-income cities that incorporate recreation space, housing, commercial, and transportation all into one!

🌍 Katie Patrick, environmental engineer and climate action designer, reminds us of sustainability’s inconvenient truth:

Real change requires sacrifice.

To create a better future, we’ll have to do things differently — from government policies to our everyday habits. The systems and behaviors that brought us here can’t take us forward.

It’s time to rethink, rebuild, and rise 🌱

We are often flooded with doomsday narratives about climate change and real scenarios of destruction.

But does this type of urgent and much-needed message sort any effect on action, or do they paralyze?

In our latest episode, Katie Patrick, an environmental engineer, climate action designer, and author, discusses the role of play, gamification, and fun in climate action — much like a recipe that requires all the ingredients in specific quantities. 🎮🌱
