Capturing Knepp’s Beaver Kits • Spring 26

Born late in spring, beaver kits come into the world with their eyes open. Their coats are fully furred and they are able to splash around in crystal waters within the first couple of days. 🪵

When we set out to film Knepp Wilding’s new beaver kits, we had no idea how elusive they would be. Toying with our crew, they led us down many a wrong path... wading through streams and waist-high water, past severed tree trunks still cloaked in darkness, to the growing sounds of the dawn chorus.

Watch to see where camerawomen Katie Mayhew and Katie Vickers, ecologist David Plummer, and producer Alice Martineau eventually found these mischievous creatures hiding…

This wild land. Spring 26. 🌿
The new @ffern.co fragrance film is out, narrated by @theclairefoy with stunning words from @maxmaxporter — and I had the joy of filming the beavers and their world with @katievickers_camera .

Some nights were frustrating and others rewarding and satisfying but mostly these shoots were full of giggles between filming sessions, thanks to working with an epically grounded team.

Big shout out to the team on the ground: @alicemartineaufilm (producer), @davidplummerimages (wildlife whisperer & fountain of knowledge), @katievickers_camera (camera), @srafinney (master of filming scenics on film), @smgibbo (other wildlife elements), @soundellie (sound) @_charliekey (BTS) and to the @kneppwildland team for having us all.

Proud to have shaped the natural world behind this incredibly fun and creative project from the initial planning to the end result.

🌙 When the Moon rises, the forest reveals its freshest leaves.

With huge eyes and silent ninja-like moves, this Malaysian colugo launches from tree to tree, baby clinging tight, in search of food.

A few medium format portraits from behind the scenes on The Wild Ones, out now on Apple TV.
Such a lovely crew of people to be stuck on a boat with for three weeks. The programmes are lovely too, beautifully made. #rolleiflex #mediumformat #filmcrew

Onto the next challenge then! A while away but at least I have time to train. Looking forward to the Montane Summer Spine: 268 miles in 6.5 days. And more to the point, there happens to be a great bunch of ladies who are also crazy enough to give it go 💪👊😊 @georgiew03 @katievickers_camera @annie_wooler

Katie looking down upon her dominion. Esgair Fellen Direct is a great grade 2 scramble if you are looking for something off the beaten track. Fantastic views, great scrambling, if a little loose and a bit serious in places. But perfect for the scrambler who has done the classics. It starts near Carreg Wasted and finishes up near Glyder Fawr. We completed a round by dropping down to Dinas Cromlech which is pretty rough ground, but there's a more straight forward descent back to Nantperis. Definitely worth seeking out! #Snowdonia #scrambling #mountaineering #climbing #climbing4life #walesadventure

@heidisevestre is not your typical glaciologist; her athleticism is up there with top athletes; her energy seems endless; her love and passion towards her research is mesmerizing. Our Greenland expedition had so much more purpose thanks to her.

Aside from our obvious climbing objectives, we supported Heidi in gathering crucial climate data for scientific research for over 12 research institutes, including @nasa! Very few people actually make to the Scoresby Sound in Eastern Greenland, which also happens to be the largest fjord in the world, so this data is quite valuable. In Heide’s words: “More than 18 research protocols defined our mission. From glaciers and rock faces to fjords and ice caps, we left no stone unturned in our quest to understand the Arctic environment.”

Hope you can tune in to #ArcticAscent on @disneyplus @hulu @natgeotv!
