pierogi girl in a pierogi world 🇵🇱
17
27 🧙‍♀️Thank you to everyone who made my birthday so special. After a couple of pandemic birthdays, this birthday was really wonderful.

I won’t pretend that another year in the pandemic wasn’t hard. It was. But 26 was so incredibly kind to me. 26 felt like a year where so many things I had worked for and hoped for came true. Right after I turned 26, Ben and I finally moved in together into a beautiful apartment on the upper east side in an area I had always wanted to live. We now have a life together. He’s my rock. That was its greatest blessing. But I also started an audiobook adventure and I realized I could do things I never thought I could do (27 characters in a fantasy novel was certainly not something I thought I could even attempt). I got my equity card. I wanted it by the time I was 26 and I got it later that year. I originated a role in a world premiere play that touched peoples lives. I signed with an agency, was in a commercial, and also fulfilled another stretch dream I didn’t think was possible: I became a personal stylist at Anthropologie in Rockefeller Center. That’s certainly a barbie multicareer dream I didn’t think was possible. This year was filled with milestones. It also taught me that whatever I think is possible is limiting: there’s so much more at my fingertips if I just have the courage to pursue it.
I followed my heart in many ways this year. I said no to things that were making me unhappy and turning me into a person I didn’t recognize.

I’m excited for 27. I plan to spend more time with friends and family this year. I plan to have fun. To enjoy this life and to cherish the people I love and am so lucky to have. Thank you to everyone who came out last night - you’re gems and I feel lucky to have you. And thank you to everyone who wished me well. Here’s to 27 - may it bring lots of love and lots of fun. And here’s to still playing characters I’m a whole decade older than!!

New York Central No. 31 Pilot House 🚢 New York, New York 🗽 c.1923
•
Before the New York Central No. 31 Pilot House found its home on Manhattan’s Pier 16, the unassuming structure was affixed atop a tugboat responsible for navigating cargo ships through the waters of the Hudson River. Preserved to its early 20th-century condition, the Pilot House now guides visitors at the city’s South Street Seaport
•
At the turn of the 20th century, industry boomed, newly-built skyscrapers climbed towards the heavens, and America’s railroads and seaports buzzed with the transport of goods. In New York Harbor, cargo containers were loaded onto railroads from ships with the help of steam tugboats like No. 31, a steel-hulled vessel measuring 102 feet in length
•
Sitting high on a tugboat, a pilot house allowed for the boat’s captain to see above the cargo on barges in the Harbor. From 1923 to 1970, New York Central No. 31 worked the freight lines of Weehawken, NJ and the Upper West Side, operated by six crew members. After the boat was retired, the South Street Seaport Museum bought its Pilot House where it remained untouched for nearly two decades
•
After years of braving the weather conditions of the waterfront, the Pilot House was due for restoration. Master joiners Jim Clements and Glen Carver and woodcarver Sal Polisi restored it to its original condition with the help of maritime historian Norman Brouwer. With a revived internal wooden structure, new coat of paint, and updated name board, the Pilot House was ready for its debut
•
Now a fixture on the pier, the green and red-clad Pilot House - a color palette that matches its appearance from the 1930s - greets guests exploring the docked ships along the seaport. It currently serves as the ticket booth for the Trapeze School New York
