What a fabulous evening celebrating the launch of Wise Women 2026. 💜

I had the privilege of speaking and leading an activation on self-acknowledgement — something that resonated so deeply in the room and felt so needed.

A room full of incredible women pausing to acknowledge not just what they have done, but the women they have become through the experience of living their lives.

Congratulations Gray Tham on a remarkable project and a stunning evening celebrating the stories, wisdom and beauty of women. What you have created is incredibly meaningful.

So grateful to have been part of it. ✨ #sashuabenay #womeninbusiness #inspiredliving #womenincorporate #themagneticspeaker

One of the questions I hear most often is, “What do I do in front of the camera?”

The answer is usually much simpler than people expect.

Breathe.

With Jane, I invited her to close her eyes for a moment, take a few deep breaths, and then open them when she was ready.

It was never about creating the perfect expression. It was about creating the space for her to feel grounded.

Because when you feel safe enough to simply be yourself, that is when the most meaningful portraits are made.#simplygrayphotography #womenover50 #melbournephotographer #melbournephotographer #wisewomen2026

Meet Kellie Lyons, 46. @kellie.m.lyons

In Year 3, a teacher told her she could be smart or beautiful, never both. Kellie chose smart. She joined the debate team at nine, got called a square for it, and kept going anyway. She had every box ticked for law at Melbourne University, and at the very last moment, walked away from it. It was never the courtroom she wanted. It was the thinking.

Twenty-five years on, she is the founder and Chief Knowledge Officer of Perspicacious, currently writing her first book on decision mastery, and still walking into boardrooms full of men, prepared every time. She used to measure success by the house, the car, the things you could point to. Now she measures it by freedom, by being the one who gets to decide.

Some days that old teacher's voice still finds her. She has learned exactly what to say back.

"I am intelligent. I am capable. I am strong. And I am beautiful."

Meet Jacquie Quaine, 52. @jacquieq_beauty

For 14 years she ran a successful personal training and running coaching business, until wear and tear from years of training led to three tough surgeries, both ankles reconstructed and fused. She shut the doors on the business she loved. Then, at 47, came three lumps in her left breast, and a body reconstructed through removal, reduction, hernia repair, and a radical tummy tuck. What broke me, made me, she says, and she means it.

From that place she built Mrs Q Skincare, a business for women like her, mature, real, and done settling. A personal trainer for the face, just without the cardio.

Jac reminds us: Life will always have its challenges and sometimes we get knocked to the ground. That is not the challenge. The real challenge is picking ourselves back up and walking forward again with our head held high and shoulders back.

Have you ever taken a risk and, in the moment, felt like a complete fool?

You know that little voice. “What on earth am I doing? People are going to think I look ridiculous.”

Then something unexpected happens.
You see the result and realise you absolutely nailed it.

It feels as though someone has given you permission to be bold, to trust yourself, to take up space. But the truth is, you never needed anyone’s permission. You had it in you all along.

That is exactly what happened with this portrait of Leonie.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked her to trust me. She laughed and admitted she felt a little silly doing this pose. I understood. It was different. It felt unfamiliar.
But I could see the photograph before we had even taken it.

When we sat down together at her reveal, we both knew. We had created something special.

It took courage from both of us. I had to be brave enough to ask her to do something that felt a little uncomfortable. She had to be brave enough to trust me and follow through.

That is where the magic happened.
So, what do you think? Did we nail it?
To be honest, I do not really care what everyone else thinks.

I love it. Leonie loves it. And that is what matters.

Maybe that is the reminder we all need.
Stop worrying so much about what other people might think. Trust your instincts. Follow your heart. Lean into the uncomfortable.

That is often where the most extraordinary things are waiting.

At eleven she wanted to be the magician. Not the assistant. The one who performed the tricks.

She grew up with nothing and put herself through law school Built the career. Got the status. The money. The firm.

And found it did not feel like freedom at all.

On her 50th birthday she resigned the next day. Not on a whim.

Meet Suzie Thoraval, 51.
Leadership strategist. Coach. Board director.
@suziethoraval

Woman who learned that growth only ever lives on the other side of comfort.

She says:
"Rest is not a reward. It is a requirement."
"You can lead in your way. There is no archetype of a leader you need to follow."

Suzie's full story is coming in Wise Women Magazine 2026.

Launching Wednesday 19 August 2026 at The Kilburn Hotel, this special evening will be both a celebration and a reunion.

A chance to honour Suzie, celebrate our 2026 Wise Women, and bring together the women over 40 who have been part of this project, this community, and this story.

A few days ago, we photographed a Wise Woman whose life has been filled with the number 11:11.

We talked about it throughout her session. The way it seems to appear exactly when she needs it.

Fast forward to another photoshoot a day later.

Our makeup artist Kat suddenly noticed a tiny piece of confetti floating in the studio. Somehow it had become caught in a cobweb and was hanging there, suspended in mid-air.

We laughed and said, “We have to take a photo and send it to Jac.”

I pulled out my phone, pointed it at the confetti, and looked at the screen.

11:11.

Out of all the moments in the day.

I am not here to tell you what it means.

But after five years of Wise Women, I have come to believe that some people are meant to find us. Some conversations are meant to happen. Some stories arrive exactly when they are needed.

Maybe the magic is not in the number.

Maybe the magic is simply in noticing.

Before smartphones, she guided strangers through unfamiliar streets.

Lead the way. Keep moving. Get them where they needed to go.

She was still figuring out her own direction.

Meet Kerryn Batson, 69.

Photographer. Wild thing. Woman who kept showing up.

She says:
“Don’t give up and don’t listen to negative people.”

And then, more honestly:
“I don’t have it completely worked out. But I am working on it. It is a daily thing.”

That is where the wisdom lies. We take one brave step at a time.

Kerryn’s full story is coming in Wise Women Magazine 2026.
