Spending last 3 months on creating something so meaningful and special not only made me grow & become an artist I am today, it also brought an incredible amount of pure, childlike joy into my life. This play healed & opened hearts. It showed us the lightness and heights we hadn’t seen. I will forever remember all your faces, my dear fellow cast&crew friends. Can’t wait to see you again soon!

Thank you Chris. Thank you Kentwood Players. And thank you my beautiful fallen angel, Iago.

It’d be impossible to put into words what playing Emilia in Othello has meant to me. What a privilege to bring such a loving, brave, and flawed woman to life. She is my favorite to date. It’s an old story but we made it ours. To find a playful Iago & Emilia who truly love one another with Georgi. And then to be able to bring one of the best female friendships in Shakespeare to life with Katrina…I could not have asked for a better Desdemona. I could write a missive about everyone in this show. I am so incredibly grateful and lucky to have been able to tell this story with these friends. During a time in my life when there seemed to be only dark, they all burst in like sunshine incarnate. Grateful. Grateful. Grateful. ❤️‍🔥☀️

Thank you to anyone and everyone who made this production possible and who came to see it. It meant and means everything to me. 🫶🏻

I almost didn’t make it into this production because of a most “unremarkable audition” but Doug, the dance choreographer saved me.

In between Saturday’s matinee and evening shows, the director, Chris, pulled me aside to tell me how bad my audition was. Yeah, the thing that happened all the way back in June. He said he had a deal with Doug that if there was a wildcard situation, Doug could teach a good actor to dance and Chris could teach a good dancer to act. I guess I was that because Chris said he was ready to pass on me while Doug said, “no, let’s keep him, he can move.” Doug won, Chris shrugged and gave me a role with just one line because he thought, “well, he can’t fuck up one line, right??”

I was flabbergasted.

FIRST of all, that’s the funniest fucking story because I did my audition exactly how some famous Hollywood actor, Rob Morrow, told me to do it just two hours before the actual audition.

It was Saturday morning on June 20th and I was in a Master Teachers acting class at the Ruskin theater and Rob was teaching that day. At first I did my monologue (Pacino’s from Frankie & Johnny) the way I rehearsed it dozens of times since I picked it up at Susan Giosa’s acting studio. It was heartfelt and measured, I hit the beats I loved and it’d be great for the role I was gunning for, Cassio. But Rob wasn’t thrilled.

Deadpan, Rob said, “Forget everything and just say the lines as fast as you can.”

I tried and stumbled. “I’m not sure if I actually know the lines well enough to say it that fast.” “Well, that’s your first mistake. Just try.” (I hadn’t rehearsed it like that. Yet).

“Who’s your favorite actor?”

My mind went blank. I have so many heroes. “Uh, Matthew Mc... McConaughey.”

“Ok sure. Well, try to channel him. Don’t think. just say the lines. Go.”

I proceeded to recite the lines as fast as I could, stumbling, while Rob would cue me to go even faster. “Faster.” I tried to trim every pause to nothing. “Frankie’s got a gun to your head!” I went faster. The words were flowing. “C’mon, you know the lines just fine!” (Story continues below)
