💛Book Mail & Review💛
Dance of the Owl Woman by @katzinstapen

This book was one of my favorite reads of 2026! K.M. Huber does an incredible job immersing us into sixth century Peru with a mix of magical realism and romance. The main character, Patya is such a strong and fierce character who instantly hooked me in from the start. Throughout the book, she faces several challenges surrounding family, tragedy and betrayal that allows her to find herself and her own strength which was incredibly empowering to me. Although this is a sequel to Call of the Owl Woman, it was perfectly find to read on its own. If you love YA, historical fiction and magical realism, this is a must read!

Thank you to @booksparks for this beautiful #gifted PR package!

The kind of book you want to read outside with a cup of tea. 📖🌷 K.M. Huber’s @katzinstapen Dance of the Owl Woman by @booksparks

This book opened a new door for me into Andean cosmology and the ancient Nasca world. If you love novels inspired by ancient cultures and mythologies, Earth-honouring traditions, feminine wisdom, and stories that bring us closer to the living world, this is one to add to your reading list. ✨📚

It also felt like a reminder of what first shaped my own relationship with Deep Ecology and the more-than-human world. 💚🌳

And I had the great pleasure of speaking with Kathi about all of this for an episode of the Women and Mythology Podcast. I cannot wait to share our conversation with you very soon! stay tuned 🕯

August didn’t disappoint

5⭐️ Theo of Golden, The Burning Side and Don’t Forget to Write- I loved each of this stories, and I’m not alone. They will stir your emotions, each in a different way. They are “people” stories. You’ll laugh and you’ll cry. I will happily recommend these over and over.

4⭐️ Call of the Owl Woman and Dance of the Owl Woman - mystical historical fiction that follows a young girl’s journey and coming of age in ancient Peru. Good mix of adventure, adversity and perseverance. These would be a great intro to HF for younger readers.

We are excited to welcome author KM Huber back to Neighborly Books! She will join us on Monday, Sept. 21, at 6 PM to read from her new book, Dance of the Owl Woman. It is the continuing story of Patya that was begun in Call of the Owl Woman. These books are perfect for readers of epic fantasy rooted in the folktales of ancient civilizations.

There will be time for questions and signing at the end of the event. We are currently taking pre-orders for both books.

🦉My Review🦉

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dance of the Owl Woman is a beautiful, coming-of-age story filled with magical realism and mystery! The story follows Patya, as she journeys to find not only herself, but also save her people from crisis and corruption!

The story is both engaging & imaginative and I definitely recommend checking it out!

I also thought it was a nice touch that the author included a map of Nasca, a “Cast of Characters” and a glossary, all of which made reading and understanding the story, infinitely better!

While this book is the sequel to Call of the Owl Woman, it can be read as a standalone, as I did! That said, since I really enjoyed this book, I’m eager to go back and checkout the first one!

Thank you @katzinstapen for the opportunity to read and review your book!

Thank you @booksparks for the opportunity to participate in this tour!

Dance of the Owl Woman- KM Huber
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Released Aug. 18, 2026

This sequel to Call of the Owl Woman continues the story of Patya, the young Peruvian woman, who in spite of her age, continues to defy the powerful elders and risks her safety to save those she loves. During this story, Patya continues to discover and enhance her true calling and works to clear her name and honor her ancestors. She must find the strength to continue down a path that may lead her away from those she loves.

This YA historical fantasy is fast paced and keeps readers interested . While it is suggested that it can be read as a stand alone, I feel you need to read the first one to really understand the dynamics of the culture and characters described.

Thank you Book Sparks for including me as part of the review tour.

I enjoy stories that explore cultural traditions that are passed from generations past and this book didn’t disappoint.

Call of the Owl Woman- k.m.huber
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

Set in ancient Peru, this story was part historical fiction/magical realism and part coming of age.

Synopsis -
15 yr.old Patya is finding her way in her family at a time when extreme drought is threatening her community and all around her. She is also mourning the loss of her grandmother, who was a healer and had a very strong ability to foresee the good and the bad around her.
When her father and brothers set out to find additional water sources, she senses tragedy coming their way and must rely on her inherited instincts to help her family and to save herself.

My thoughts-
This book explored the ancient Peruvian culture and the way the people at that time used different methods to live off the land and heal themselves. They also had many superstitions and were guided my leaders who understood the power of using these to control people for good and at times for bad. I loved the way this story followed Patya and her family. She challenged herself and overcame her fears. She stayed true to her values, both learned and inherited.

This is the first book in the series. The sequel, Dance of the Owl Woman comes out Tuesday, 8/18. I’m looking forward to it .

Also, the author provided a cast of characters at the beginning of the book and a glossary at the end which was very helpful and appreciated !

The stakes only get higher for Patya in this heart-stopping sequel to Call of the Owl Woman, which features a tenacious heroine and vivid villains who will mesmerize fans of the magical and keep armchair travelers at the edge of their seats.

In sixth-century Peru, Patya’s world is being torn apart by crisis, drought, and personal tragedy, yet she transforms from a shy teenager who doubts she’ll ever be loved into a mystical young leader willing to risk her life for what she believes. After facing down vicious high priest Achiq to defend her little brother, Patya herself becomes the focus of Achiq’s vengeance: He convinces the community that she is responsible for a devastating fire actually set by his followers and turns people against her.

Determined to prove her innocence, Patya sets out to find her grandmother’s allies. Drawing strength from her ancestral roots and the earth itself, she gradually discovers new strength and awakens to her own power—and begins to fulfill her grandmother’s dream of rekindling an ancient sisterhood. Despite danger, fear, and self-doubt, Patya summons the courage to step into a destiny larger than herself.
