I didn’t think growing up would mean being away from home even on Rakhi. 🥹❤️

As kids, Rakhi was just about tying a the most silly rakhi, fighting over gifts, annoying each other, and sitting down for a meal together. 💗 We couldn’t wait to grow up, but no one really told us that growing up would also mean living miles away from the people who made home feel like home.

And when you move abroad, you start looking for little pieces of home everywhere. You look for people who bring you that familiar warmth, the comfort, the laughter, the feeling of being understood without having to explain yourself.

And somewhere along the way, some of those people become family.

They may not share your blood, your last name, or your childhood memories, but they show up for you in ways that feel just as real. Some even become the siblings you found along the way the ones you can call at any hour, annoy endlessly, laugh with, and run to when life gets a little too much.

Because not every relationship is meant to be a blood relation. Some are chosen. Some are found. And some become home.

Maybe that’s the most beautiful part of growing up and moving away realizing that family can find you in the most unexpected places.

To the siblings life gave us, and the ones we found along the way Happy Rakhi. 🥹❤️🧿

There are moments in life when you realize that the best parts of your story were never really about the places you went… they were about the people who made those places feel like home. 🤍

🗽 My dad seeing New York City for the first time.
👩 My mom and me hugging goodbye the first time I flew out of New York - a hug that somehow held all the words we didn’t know how to say.
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒My brother and sister loving me just as fiercely, no matter where in the world I am, reminding me that some bonds don’t need a location to exist.
And then there are the friends who slowly become family.
💗 The people I found here, thousands of miles away from home, who showed up for me, celebrated with me, laughed with me, listened to me, and became a little piece of home in a city that once felt so unfamiliar.
Looking back at these moments, I keep thinking about how quickly time moves. And honestly… what if I had more time?

More dinners that turn into hours of talking.
More spontaneous plans.
More hugs at the airport.
More walks with no destination.
More ordinary days that I didn’t realize would one day become memories I’d miss.

Maybe that’s the bittersweet part of growing up and building a life away from where you started you gain so much, but you also become painfully aware of how precious your time with the people you love really is.

If you can think of the worst, you can also think of the best.
So I’m choosing to think about the best.
The best memories we haven’t made yet.
The next time my family comes to visit.
The next reunion.
The next late-night conversation.
The next “I miss you” turning into “I’ll see you soon.”
Because maybe home was never just one place.
Maybe home is my dad looking at NYC with wonder.
My mom’s hug before I leave.
My siblings loving me from wherever they are.
And the friends who became family when I was far away from mine.
And if I could ask for one thing, it would simply be… a little more time with all of them. 🤍
Because someday, I know I’ll look back at this chapter and realize — I was living through some of the moments I once wished for.
And I hope I remembered to appreciate them while I was there. ✨

Happy birthday to this golden retriever energy in human form (and I wouldn’t think twice about it).❤️❤️ @kaushekritaa
Forever grateful to have you by my side -my main man through every high and low, and forever your passenger princess.
You might be the youngest, but you’ve always had the biggest heart -our shoulder to cry on, our loudest cheerleader, and definitely the calm in every storm.
Dressing you up started as childhood fun, but looks like it turned into a lifelong commitment and thankfully, a designer’s calling🤭🤪
Wishing you endless love, success, happiness, and all the scritches a pet-loving soul could ask for 🐾🥰
You’re the kind that turns the ordinary into gold.✨✨🌟
Happy birthday, my baby ❤️ love you endlessly xx

Grateful heart that every international student has when they see their parents, friends and family after being away for over 1400 days. Barely do we express how we feel about the distance, hardships, but the heart cheers and aches at the same time for all the years of effort our loved ones put for us only to see us succeed and live a dream despite the distance. ❤️🥹

First reel of 2025 had to be with my crew! 🫶🏻🥲

As an immigrant who moved across the world twice - finding people you love in new countries & maintaining connection with long distance friends becomes so very important.
I want 2025 to be the year when I can spend even more time with my family of choice and I was blessed ‘cause my kid came down to kickstart this year with me from miles away. The best present I could ask for, thank you @hemangini_rita and miss you @kaushekritaa ♥️🧿✨
