🫶🏽 It’s been a little over a month with the most handsome & sweetest boy. One thing about my son is his eyes are always like 🥺 and it’s the cutest thing. His cradle cap is finally going away and unlike his sister who downed everything my Koko man has had a hard time digesting his food but finally figured it out! He doesn’t smile a ton but when he does it’s a big one😂🥹. We are so in love with our Koko bean, puff, rice, man etc. (I just rotate it😂) and are so glad he chose to spend forever with us. 🤞🏽🔒💞

For 25+ years I’ve dreamed of the day I’d be able to say I’m a doctor. Yesterday was that day. I am officially a doctor! Kava Chayce Afu, MD. I don’t know that I’ll ever write my name like this again, but it feels really good to do it at least once. We finally made it! “We” because this has been anything but a solo journey. God has blessed me with the best family and friends, you who have carried me on your shoulders throughout my life. You know who you are. Thank you for believing in me and helping me achieve my lifelong dream. My wife, parents, and siblings surprised me with a gathering of loved ones who greeted me as I returned home from Tucson last night. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with most of my dearest family and friends at the home in which I grew up. It was perfect. Thank you family for making this happen! I’m glad I got to see so many of my favorite people before leaving Utah. You all are my village. Now on to San Antonio to be trained for the next three years as a physician in Internal Medicine. But I’ll be back, Utah. Don’t get sick until then. 😉 I love you all!

The Healing Power of Gratitude Day 5: Grandparents I will start with the two people who became brand-new grandparents when Baby Suseti was born. They are my parents - Kava and Susette. I could spend a week describing what they mean to me and all that they’ve done for me and my siblings. But I’ll just share 3 of the many things I treasure: 1) They’ve raised us in the gospel and helped cultivate our faith in Jesus Christ; 2) They’ve taught us never to settle, but to dream big and stay focused; 3) They work so hard to provide for us, but they frequently find ways to serve and lighten the loads of others outside of our immediate family. Baby is going to grow up learning Christlike service from two of the best, and that makes me so happy. I love my parents! I am grateful for my mother-in-law Lineni Makihele. She is one of those rare few who will drop everything to be there for those she loves. And she has a special love for the little children in our family. Her first biological grandchild was born in 2018, but she has, for many years, been a “grandmother” to so many children who come to be in her care for one reason or another. Her many grandchildren will attest that she is one of the best grandmas, and Baby Suseti is blessed to have her. I am also grateful for my parents-in-law Pate and Ana ‘Ofiu. I always know our time with them is going to be fun. They love to spoil us when we’re with them. And I’m afraid of how much they’ll spoil Suseti haha. They give a lot and love a lot, and I’m grateful for them. I have a special love for my grandparents - Janwillem and Carol van der Beek and Tomenika Afu - and Mele’s Grandma Kaufo’ou Hafoka. They have all been spiritual pillars in our families and sacrificed so much for us to have happy and successful lives here in the States. I am grateful for Grandpa Siaosi Afu. I miss you so much! Since your passing, I have felt your angelic presence at certain pivotal moments in my life, and I thank you for continuing to strengthen me, even from the other side of the veil. I can’t wait to see you again. I know I speak for all of your grandkids. #givethanks
