Such a lovely evening closing out 20 years in Brooklyn with some of my favorite people in the world 🌎 thank you everyone who came from so far and poured so much love into the space. I cannot express how difficult yet financially sound a decision it is to let go of my most beloved studio. As much as my heart is filled with your love, that much I will miss being in proximity to you. Being in community with y’all has been everything good in life. 💙💔💙💔💙💔💙💔 as @anuannam said after spending the last two months in it, “the Xenana is a zeitgeist “ indeed. I will miss being the queen of my little queendom, 600 square feet of art joy sisterhood made the biggest impact on my life and practice. My studio 💔💙💔💙💔💙🧚🏿‍♀️🌈🧚🏿‍♀️has been magical. Kavita Das’ (@kavitadas) pay-what-you-can nonfiction workshop on Writing With Conscience will explore the complexities of writing compellingly and responsibly about social issues. Over the course of four weeks, by reading an array of texts and engaging in creative exercises, writers will learn how to discuss the world with nuance and sensitivity. The workshop will meet on Wednesdays (January 14th–February 4th) from 7:00–9:30 PM ET and is open to all writers of color. Examine the revolutionary possibilities generated by pleasure-oriented writing in Shruti Swamy’s one-day multi-genre craft class It Feels Right to Me: Pleasure in Practice on 1/24. Grapple with important questions about engaging with craft in a time of crisis during Hazem Fahmy’s four-week poetry workshop Committed Craft, beginning on 2/4. I keep pinching myself about the goodness of this show and how much community I get to revel in all the time. My nervous system can hardly believe it and keep bracing itself, stuck in its CPTSD loop wondering when it might end. Lols. This afternoon was a dream come true, never would young me have thought I would have an exhibition like this filled with my favorite feminist powerhouse authors. I am overjoyed that y’all came 💙🙌🏽✊🏾🧚🏿‍♀️💋💋 I hope we can turn @penandbrushnyc into a proper community hub while this show lasts. So much joy, I am savoring it, relishing it.
