Make 90’s @universalgeneve cool. This cost me under a thousand pounds. A little closer look at my new UG world time GMT. I forgot to mention, it’s also a birth year watch! Not bad condition for 33 years eh?! Thank you @universalgenevefiesta for helping me find and secure this.

While sitting by the beach and taking some time off, it felt like the perfect moment to scroll through my camera roll and look back on some of the highlights from the first six (seven?) months of the year. ☀️🏖️

So here we go with the first post!

This was the first time that a collector, true enthusiast, and friend @kawatch_gva , trusted me with his beautiful UG collection for a photoshoot.

It took me quite a while to figure out the right shot. It was very different from what we usually create at @watchspare , but that’s exactly what made it so much fun. Stepping out of my comfort zone made me want to experiment even more with my camera afterwards.

What do you guys think of the results?

Merci encore Antonin, et à bientôt pour le café de 7h45 😅🙌🏻 #universalgenève #exoticnina #poleroutersub #watchfam #watchphotography

I just realized I had never posted a proper wrist shot of this one.

With Universal Genève back in the spotlight and auction prices reaching crazy levels, this seemed like the right moment.

Still one of my favorite uses of color from the brand. The blue bezel, white registers, and bright red chronograph hand make for a combination that’s impossible to ignore.

Bright colors, bold contrasts, playful designs… modern watch brands are clearly embracing a more expressive side lately. From colorful lacquer dials to unexpected collaborations, watches have become a little less serious again, and honestly, that’s a good thing

But long before that trend became popular, Universal Genève was already experimenting with daring shapes, vibrant colors, and futuristic designs back in the late 60s and 70s

Whether it was a vivid racing chronograph, a sharply styled diver, or these almost psychedelic Uni-Sonic dials, Universal never seemed afraid to try something different. And somehow, decades later, they still feel fresh

Kicking off the weekend with another piece from my personal collection:

Here is my 1934 UG Compur “Canelé”⁣
⁣
This is an example of a Series 1 Compur - the first run of @universalgeneve ‘s premier chronograph line.

The Compur revolutionized mechanical chronographs in two distinct ways:

1. The Dual-Pusher System: Before the Compur, most wrist chronographs were “mono-pushers” (a single button handled start, stop, and reset in sequence). Universal Genève was among the first to commercialize the two-pusher mechanism. This separation allowed users to stop and restart the timer without forcing a reset, a requirement for timing intervals.

2. Double Column Wheel Mechanism: The very earliest iterations featured two integrated column wheels. This mechanical layout optimized the engagement and safety of the starting, stopping, and resetting levers, proving highly advanced for 1930s engineering.

Outside of the obvious history of this piece, I also think it’s a damn near perfect design.

The “Canelé” case, nicknamed so due to its resemblance to a French pastry from Bordeaux (I had to google it), is just.. spectacular.

That mixed with the “pomme” hands gives this piece a very Breguet-esque look.

Add in the 37mm case size and.. chefs kiss

Magnificent, homogenous design.

Another fun bit: this piece features in thee anthology of Universal Geneve Chronos - @librouniversal by Pietro Giuliano Sala.
⁣
Inside is a beautiful 14/2 two-column wheel chronograph movement.

I could go on and on and on about this one…

But to keep it brief:
⁣
This piece is encapsulates everything i love about vintage, and everything I love about @universalgeneve.

Have a great weekend, all!
