Kaydyn Rutledge is a junior at Mojave High School in Nevada. The 5-foot-7 outside hitter, middle blocker and right-side hitter also plays for NecTr 17s Nationals Rudy. She outlined her journey in this Digging Dish.
“I first started playing volleyball by going to a rec center that was down the street from my house,” she said. “They offered level 1 and 2 volleyball lessons. I was 12, and in sixth grade when I started volleyball.”
She is a versatile player.
“I did not always play the same position,” she said. “When I started NYS, I was an outside hitter, and then I became a middle in eighth grade. Then I was an opposite my freshman year.”
She wants to play college volleyball.
“It has always been my dream to play college volleyball,” she said. “I want to go Division I, just like my dad did for basketball.”
She enjoys inspiring younger volleyball players.
“My favorite aspect of volleyball is being able to showcase my talents and inspire young athletes,” she said.
She works on all aspects in training.
“I do weight training, plyometrics and cardio,” she said.
She offered words of wisdom.
“My advice for young athletes is to never get discouraged,” she said. “Practice makes perfect, so don’t ever second-guess if you’ll make it big someday.”
