The camera sees what confidence reveals.

My role is creating the space for that confidence to show up.

The result?

He dropped Computer Science and picked up a camera. No training. No connections. Just a deep feeling that stories deserved to be told.

Abel Kayode Otitoju moved from Kaduna to Lagos in 2011 with nothing but that belief and built himself into one of Nigeria’s most quietly powerful visual storytellers.

This year, out of 1,000+ nominees worldwide, he won the 2026 Shutterstock Impact Award for his collection “Heal” photographs of a community health outreach for ageing men in a Nigerian village. Raw. Real. Human.

The judges called it an honest portrayal of community care.

We call it exactly what SoTectonic’s Humans of Impact is about.
Swipe to meet Abel!
