POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This week we had a special visit from my Professor Bryant Pangelinan @chamurai76 to show some of the new police officers we have on the team some tactics that they can use on the streets to better subdue a suspect. It's always a great opportunity to learn from Bryant, he brings a wealth of experience as a former LEO himself as well as a seasoned competitor and world champion. The training focused on keeping an advantage in position as well as how to de-escalate and put someone's hands behind their back when its time. Resources like this intersection of competition as well as real world experience are why I chose to train under the @sabre_bjj Sabre Jiu-jitsu Affiliation. Thank you very much Bryant Pangelinan for visiting us.

Last night, Kevin earned his purple belt. 💜🥋

There are promotions in Jiu-Jitsu that just hit differently — and purple belt is one of them.

It represents years of showing up. Thousands of rounds. Getting tapped. Learning. Growing. Working through the plateaus and the days when progress feels almost invisible.

A lot of people start Jiu-Jitsu. Far fewer stay long enough to reach this level.

And at Big Break, a belt is never given simply because enough time has passed.

When David promotes someone to the next belt, it means they have earned it — through their technique, consistency, character, and the way they carry themselves on and off the mats.

Kevin, you earned this one.

We’ve watched the work you’ve put in, and we couldn’t be more proud to officially welcome you to the purple belt ranks.

Congratulations, Kevin. 💜

The journey continues.

VIGILANT BROTHERHOOD⚔️
A warrior doesn’t look for war—but he’s ready when it comes his way.

That is why we train.

Not for attention. Not to prove who is the toughest. We train because life has a way of testing you without warning—and when that moment comes, preparation matters.

On these mats, people stepped outside their comfort zones, faced their nerves, pushed through exhaustion, and trusted one another enough to learn.

We trained together.
We struggled together.
We prayed together.
And we left stronger together.

This was bigger than Jiu-Jitsu.

At the Vigilant Brotherhood, we are building a community rooted in faith, discipline, preparation, and real connection—a place where men and women can sharpen one another and know they do not have to face life’s battles alone.

This is only the beginning.

Forged by discipline. Guided by faith.
⚔️ Stay Vigilant.

When dealing with the closed guard in nogi, you're often at the mercy of the person holding you. You have the option of pushing the knee down, but that makes you vulnerable to sweeps and the triangle choke. You can also create the angle in push away from the opponents torso, but a lot of the time, they can hold their legs together very tight. This option creates a moment where you can break the closed guard by capitalizing on them, forming a high guard when you tripod up. Remember that there is a counter for everything in jiu-jitsu, and most of the time, we are trying to manage a series of moments where we have to act first to beat the opponent to the best position.
