For nearly two decades, we’ve made a life out of telling other people’s stories. Long days, late nights, incredible collaborators, airplanes, children, deadlines, and years spent learning what it takes to turn an idea into something real.

Through all of it, we kept going...somewhere between composure and chaos, always trying not to lose our point of view.

LA MAMA came from that life. It began with something we needed, but became a much bigger idea about resilience, style, and the women who somehow keep carrying it all forward.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who helped us get here, our extraordinary team, collaborators, partners, friends and families, and to @tmagazine for being the first to tell the LA MAMA story.

A DECADE!!! I’m so honored to have co-chaired the @whitneymuseum Art Party and to have served as the co-chair of the Whitney Museum Contemporaries Executive Committee for the past 10 years. What began as a single night in support of art has grown into years of unforgettable moments, inspiring artists, and a community that continually fuels creativity in this city. Grateful for the friendships, the energy, and the memories - here’s to celebrating art, NYC, and the young creative voices that drive our industry forward! I met Kristen Cole years ago, I was in LA and came across her effortlessly cool concept store, Ten over Six. I left her store so inspired. Such a nicely curated store infused with personality. In her store, I discovered films by the American documentary-maker Frederick Wiseman… An incredible discovery for a total movie-buff like me, I bought the whole collection.

Inspired, I left a message with one of the salespeople, to pass on my enthusiasm to Kristen. Later, she contacted me, very touched by my message and our friendship started then. We have met in Austin, New York, Dallas…In Paris we were catching up every season for dinner.

It felt so natural to continue our conversation on her podcast DRY CLEAN ONLY. We talked about everything, from the changing landscape within the fashion and accessories industry, greenwashing and other systemic industry issues, emerging brands surviving in a saturated market, the highs and lows of Retail to balancing our passions for the industry with our responsibilities as mothers and friends.

Bienvenu Steinberg & Partner is pleased to announce Swedish-born, New York-based artist Mia Enell's first exhibition with the gallery, Large Paintings, till April 2nd.

“I am a woman and so I see the world through that lens,” Enell tells me. In Hélène Cixous’ The Laugh of the Medusa, the French philosopher encourages the practice of écriture féminine, wherein women use their body as a means to communicate a new language rather than be confined by patriarchal language that does not allow for full expression of the female self. Cixous reminds us that “You only have to look at the Medusa straight on to see her. And she's not deadly. She's beautiful and she's laughing.” Antagonistic to Freud’s psychoanalytic theories, it is not Medusa’s lack but her laughter that contradicts the dominant oedipal language.” (Alaina Claire Feldman in Mia Enell Large Paintings, a catalogue published in conjunction with the exhibition).

Applied to strips of raw linen or canvas, thin washes of watercolor, oil, and gouache seep and bleed onto each other to varying points of saturation. As Stocki describes, these moments of material concentration/condensation are the very “chemical premise/promise” of her work

Through emotional characters and historical nods, Glaessner implores us to examine our roots, to look closer at our genesis: nature. The modern world dissolves our connection to nature, strips us of our animal instincts, and estranges us from the organic origins of our progenitors. ‘Phantom Tail’ and its fluid hosts summon us back—back into a place unaffected by modernity, a world where existence is untethered by the cultural baggage of our predecessors, endeavoring to reconnect us to the earliest, primordial versions of ourselves.”

For #Hyperallergic, @seepackard writes, “A Pre-Raphaelite head, its expression dreamy, emerges from the bowed surface of turquoise waters in Elizabeth Glaessner’s ‘Blue Recluse’ (2021). This apparent placidity belies monstrous physical and psychic depths: the bulk of the painting is given over to the figure’s sweeping, submerged, arthropodal body, its outstretched arms and four bent legs springing from a slim thorax to push menacingly against the bounds of the frame, bones scattered beneath its scuttling feet. This Arachne-esque character is in good company: the oneiric paintings in Glaessner’s solo show at P·P·O·W are populated by a wonderfully weird menagerie of sentinel-like sphinxes, hazy mirages, eldritch doppelgängers, posing nymphs, and even a horse that, like an inverted centaur, has a ghostly human foot.”
