Season VII | Beautiful Thinking Scandinavia
EP 3: Nevada Berg | Creator, Founder of North Wild Kitchen

In this episode, Carolyn Hadlock, founder and host of The Beautiful Thinkers Project, had the privilege of sitting down with Nevada to discuss how she migrated from Utah → Norway and how the landscape has shaped her experience through the lens of food.

Norway is special in how they approach things differently than the US, at a more systemic level. Nevada connected with the community, learned all of their traditions in preservation and outdoor cooking, talked with farmers, visited Seters and traveled the country to get a lay of the land. This immersion is what has given her credibility as a voice of Norwegian food.

We discuss the importance of seasons (in food and in living), taking a modern twist on traditional cultural dishes (spruce tip fritters) and how there’s no such thing as bad weather in Norway (only that you don’t have the right gear).

Nevada is an award winning author with her two cookbooks (link in bio with link to episode). She is self taught in photography (which doesn’t show) and her social media feed is exquisite. She intuitively captures the essence of the country and all of its facets as only someone who’s not born there could. But then again, if you spent any time with Nevada (whose name means mountain), you’d think she’d been there her whole life.

Food is an integral part of The Beautiful Thinkers Project. It’s always an honor to talk with someone who’s shaping culture through food in all of its glorious dimensions.

We spent an exciting afternoon at the @spyscape spy museum in New York filming portions of this video to go with our song "Sorry, Alan." The device you're using right now was created thanks to the work of Alan Turing. Learn about the story behind the man and the machine at the link in our bio. Thanks also to @kennettclassic for allowing us to take footage of your vintage computers.
