BKTC Time Trial 8/16/24

First thing's first; thank you to all my teammates, friends, & coaches for making this whole event happen. The competitive energy was unreal out there, and it was all quite the exhilarating experience throughout from start to finish for everybody involved.

Now for my personal post-race reflection.

This mile race REALLY humbled me like nothing ever has. The result of trying to do this after 5 months of coming back from an injury & being my 3rd time this week doing track work really showed. Everything was going fine until after 1 lap & a half, where I got dropped & could no longer keep up with anybody else in my heat.

Final time, according to my watch, was 6:12. First time in a mile race while I failed to even break 6 mins.

The goal was to make my grand comeback, and show/remind everybody around me who's the REAL star of the show in Mccarren. Aka ego-driven goals. I guess you can't rush getting back into peak fitness shape, especially when your competition is people who have clearly been grinding & working hard relentlessly like I could only imagine.

Not gonna lie, the reality of this experience & result was a confidence killer. I still have so much work to do in order to restore my fitness & VO2 Max into their former glory of potential sub-5 min/mile potential, before being even close to 5:30 mile shape.

What hurts the most is wishing I could have done more that night.

It's nights like these that build character, and test your will in the face of adversity. Failure defeats losers & inspires winners. Instead of giving in to misery & self-pity, I choose to keep being myself, doing my own thing, and working hard while continuing to face new challenges along the way.

This is NOT the end.

The past 2 nights were truly spontaneous adventures. After FIVE MONTHS of what felt like I lost a part of myself due to being absent from the sport for so long...I was reminded of my love for not only track & field, but the NYC running community energy in general.

From crushing back to back workouts, to cruising thru the empty late-night streets of NYC together...even when deep down a part of me observes the intrusive thoughts in my head saying it's okay to stop when it gets hard...and lets them pass without obeying them, knowing it's a defeatist argument & my body agrees that I CAN do this, seeing my short-term goals through to the end.

Surrounding yourself with goal-oriented athletes truly changes you, and your overall life. They're gonna do the thing with or without you, so you might as well join in on the fun while you can, amirite?

It's like nothing ever feels like the end, when the next best thing to train for is only right around the corner.

Why stop now when there's so much to look forward to?

I can't completely predict what the future holds, but that means I can imagine the possibilities. And that gets me more excited than anyone could ever realize.

We waited so long for this! Our first Lilia dinner! There was so much hype I was concerned it wouldn’t live up to the expectations, but damn… it was even better than that. The Cacio e Pepe Frittelle was so good we got a second order. The main course was outstanding. Save room for dessert! #lilia #liliabrooklyn #bestrestaurants #nyceats @lilianewyork #missyrobbins

Hi Barbie! On top of being a sumptuously hypervisual treat and a riotously funny film, this week BARBIE offered me many opportunities to play and enjoy the spectrum of gender expression at a time when I'm embarking on a new commitment to find liberation from *gestures broadly* and follow my queer joy. In sum: gender is authentic artifice; Allan is me, I am Allan.

Happy Global Running Day, cause I run a lot… and I like it, and I like the people I run with.
And if you love running as much as I do😊.. please consider donating $35 to the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center link in bio #globalrunningday

Some like fast and some like slow. Either way, you'll always have people by your side when you put yourself out there.

And we win, together. ✊🏽

What a year it’s been on the run. At the end of 2021 I joined @brooklyntrackclub and made a promise to myself to get more involved in the running community - it was scary, it was thrilling, it was fun, and it’s been one of the most fulfilling activities of my adult life. I have made the best friends on the run in 2022. I can’t wait for 2023. 🖤🤍
