Avoid the election day lines at the polls and vote early! In Michigan, voters can request and return absent ballots starting now. If you’re eligible to vote this November 3rd, check your registration status at mi.gov/vote and make a plan for how you’ll vote.

If you want the experience of voting in person but can’t make it to the polls on a Tuesday, try out Michigan’s Early Voting from Saturday, October 24th to Sunday November 1st.

Look out for our next post about resources for out-of-state college students voting in their home state!

Tuesday, May 5th is a Special Election date! Local elections are an important way for residents to make their voices heard. Make your plan to vote now!
The KRESA Millage Renewal and Restoration Proposal would continue funding special education services across Kalamazoo County, generating about $16.8 million annually to support local school districts and public school academies. These funds help cover costs such as specialized instruction, teachers, paraprofessionals, therapists, and assistive technology.
All registered voters in the nine districts served by Kalamazoo RESA can vote on May 5, 2026, with polls open from 7 AM to 8 PM. Voter registration is available online or by mail until April 20, 2026, or in person at a local clerk’s office through Election Day. Absentee voting is also available to all eligible voters, with mail requests due by April 30, 2026, in-person absentee voting available until May 4, and all ballots due by 8 PM on Election Day.

K Votes program participants spent their Valentine’s Day at the girls’ basketball Compete for a Cause game! We circulated our Michiganders for Money out of Politics (MMOP) ballot initiative and spoke with members of the Kalamazoo College extended family.

MMOP recently moved their start date to October 18th, nullifying signatures prior to that date. If you think you signed before that, find K Votes on campus in the coming weeks to make sure your voice is heard!

Last Thursday, our department along with the @kzooccpd, @cceatkcollege and its program @kcollegevotes took a group of students to Lansing to see local/state government in action! Thanks to our planners, we were able to meet State Senators Sean McCann and Darrin Camilleri as well as State Representatives Julie Rogers and Matt Longjohn! We also were able to get a tour of the capitol, go to the Secretary of State’s office, and meet Assistant Solicitor General Kyla Barranco! We also had the treat of being introduced in the State House and State Senate as well viewed open session! It was a fantastic trip, thank you to everyone who was involved in planning and the students who came! 🐝🧡 Photos all by @_.libbymcfarlen._
