2️⃣ @alesso & @calvinharris - Under Control
3️⃣ Smallpools - Dreaming (@thechainsmokers remix)

Thank you so much to my best friend and longtime collaborator, KDrew, for coming through again to my HMU 451 Music Business II class at Stevens Institute of Technology!

Kevin shared incredible insight into his career as a DJ, producer, songwriter, and businessman, working with artists like Lady Gaga, Eminem, 50 Cent, Zedd, Ryan Tedder, Selena Gomez, and many more. He also spoke about his role as a co-owner of the EDM powerhouse EDM.com.

He then took us into a behind the scenes look at the worldwide hit “I Want You to Know” that he wrote with Zedd and Ryan Tedder, performed by Selena Gomez, including a deep dive into the sound design, production choices, and creative decisions that brought the record to life.

From there, Kevin took us through his production process, sharing real techniques, creative approaches, and what it actually looks like to operate at the highest level of the modern day music industry.

One of the biggest takeaways was value. The importance of owning and controlling your publishing, building independently, and creating real leverage. At the same time, not being afraid to engage with the majors when it makes sense and using those opportunities to create and expand, not give away your value.

He also emphasized something just as important. Leaving your ego at the door and always putting the music first.

The class and I are incredibly grateful for his time and wisdom!
