...and the smoke has cleared - 9/14/24

With minimal production of my own compared to my other projects, the process was much smoother, and I just breezed through it with the goal of finally getting to release an album on my birthday. I try to have a significant date if I can, and this one is significant for two reasons:

-I share this day with Nas, among my greatest influences and figures who made me fall in love with music.

- I’ll be only a year younger than Nas when Illmatic came out. It’s hard not to compare myself to people like Nas or Prodigy who made classics at such a young age, but I still feel proud for the output I’ve had in my career so far, and I hope to look back as a sage and be able to hear destiny resonating through my young voice.

Given the short amount of time between projects, the tone and themes of the album might seem very similar to the last, as I am not a drastically different person than who I was 3 months ago. The point is that even a storm does not mean an end. No matter how tempestuous the storm seems, eventually the dust settles, the smoke in the sky clears out, and the flowers and trees grow back through the blanket of ash.

Shout out to my own and only art director, Macx, who did the cover. While I know different kinds of trees have different symbolism, keep in mind the oak tree was chosen only because it looks sick. To me, the tree represents wisdom, determination, time, perspective, a many number of things. What begins with chaos and destruction must pass through this tree in order to reach a state of peace in clarity.

Ain’t no way you’re still reading this essay, but this might be my last project for a little bit because honestly college is surprisingly very time-consuming (if you ever have insomnia, just read a fucking article about communication theory, it’ll put you to sleep). Who’s to say what the future holds? Not me, but just know that an artist’s only escape from art is death.
