Day 12:

Day 12 not 13 haha. Rare Pokémon appeared today, so had to catch “it” for a practice session. Thanks to Ben for the training today, it’s definitely been awhile since we last trained.

Now you understand the “aging” process but don’t worry, let’s make this a weekly de-rust and get you back in shape in no time. Second “practice”since getting from QSB is tough … really wanna practice more :P

🇲🇾🏝🏓 A Week of Table Tennis at @gsspenangtt

This trip to Penang was completely unplanned. I was supposed to go back to Taipei after the WTT Bangkok was over. However, when I heard from Keean that he was heading to Gss (table tennis club in Penang) to prepare for the Penang Open the coming weekend, I thought it would be great to surprise them with a visit, so I decided to change my plans. Initially, I planned to stay for only 3 days, but I made the huge mistake of booking a flight to Taipei for the following week (one might think it was intentional). I ended up asking my internship manager for leave and stayed until the Penang Open. I could not participate in the singles event, but Coach Sky let me play in their team for the team event. National players and State players were participating, so the competition was very fierce. Big congratulations to the Gss team with coach Chong Lim, Michael, and Enrico, who got 3rd place, and to Leonard for the singles runner-up title 👏 🥈🥉
⚠️Please make sure to check out the outstanding receive by Coach Sky (swipe to the 10th media).⚠️

During this week, I had the chance to practice and play matches with many players I hadn't met before and with different backgrounds. I also saw the great progress made by players I was familiar with since my last visit to Gss. In other words, it was a very interesting and enriching experience.

Apart from table tennis, I still really like Penang 🏝. The Malaysian island offers a wonderful mix of cultural heritage and natural beauty. The pace of life is relaxed, the food is delicious and diverse and the people there are incredibly friendly.

Thank you so much for everything Bro @skychin0425 looking forward to my next visit!!

Thanks @iceisnotcool for the great pictures!!

WTT Star Contender Bangkok 🇹🇭🏓

After the World Champs in Busan and the World Cup in Macao, WTT Bangkok was the third event I attended onsite this year. I agree it’s maybe a bit too much. The rise of the French team, led by the Lebrun brothers, and the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris have hyped me up a lot recently. I'm super excited to return to my home country in August to witness the most important sports event in history.

Despite the absence of top Chinese players due to the lower importance of the event and some withdrawals (Felix, Hugo), it was still worth watching in person as a spectator. I originally came by myself, but I ended up watching most of the matches with Keean, whom I met in Singapore before and who is now a full-time table tennis coach. I also didn't expect to meet Sabrina, one of my teammates from NTU, who came to support her younger brother Kao Cheng-Jui, young and promising player representing Taiwan. He and his mentor, Chuang Chih-Yuan, even got the finalist title in men's doubles! Not to mention the superb performance of Harimoto, who won gold in all three events he participated in.

I also took the chance for a one-day expedition to the infamous Mae Klong train market. It’s really not easy to get there only by taking train, but it was still a fun experience. Overall, I'd say I had a better approach of Thai hospitality than last year when I only went through the touristic areas. Thai people have beautiful smiles and positive vibes.
