The forest doesn’t announce its presence. It simply waits.

Great Horned Owl is a Double IPA (8.0%ABV) brewed and dry hopped with Citra, Riwaka, and Simcoe, layering saturated tropical fruit, bright citrus, and resinous depth over a soft, expressive body.

🎨 As always, @keever brings the story inside the can to life, translating the character of the beer into artwork that feels as intentional as what it’s wrapping.

Now available at @twelve.percent.beer.project in North Haven, CT. Stop by the taproom for a pour or take some home while it lasts.

They priced my book at $100, so I took it back 🤷‍♀️

In 2018, my book on South Asian American students in U.S. schools was published by Lexington Books (an imprint of Rowman & Littlefield) at an academic price point of roughly $100… which meant almost no one I’d actually written it for could afford to read it.
So I spent the next five years fighting to get my rights back… and now, the book is rereleasing.

This is an excerpt of the rights reversion saga (and an announcement of the rerelease of Brown Voices coming this Fall), with a reveal of the new cover ❤️

Rerelease preorder coming soon. 🧿

ABOUT BROWN VOICES:
Brown Voices: South Asian American Experiences in Schools is a research-based examination of what South Asian American students actually experience in U.S. schools — and what teachers, families, and institutions often miss. Drawing on a national survey of 85 South Asian American adults and original research conducted at Johns Hopkins University, the book centers students whose academic, social, and emotional needs have been overlooked because of assumptions tied to the model minority myth. Core findings from this research have been published in the peer-reviewed Berkeley Review of Education.

📝Intensive discussion of what’s different in the new edition is on my site

Inner Circle
Hazy IPA | 6.2% ABV
Nelson. Riwaka. Simcoe.

Like the owl — patient, deliberate, most alive in the quiet hours.

Built on the foundation of Parliament, stripped down and refined. Lighter body, drier finish. White wine grape, kumquat, bright citrus, and a whisper of pine. Dry, with soft, pithy bitterness.

Precision over excess. Presence over volume. Nothing added. Nothing exaggerated. Only what remains essential.

Crown & Feathers has landed 👑🦉

Our 4.8% Kölsch-style ale is officially pouring now at @twelve.percent.beer.project in North Haven, CT 🍺

Bright, crisp, and effortlessly drinkable — this one opens with soft grain sweetness and delicate floral notes, finishing clean with a subtle hop snap. It’s the kind of beer that doesn’t ask for attention… but earns it anyway.

The label says it all: a regal owl crowned in quiet confidence, eyes closed, fully in its element. Wisdom, balance, and just the right amount of attitude.

Crafted with intention. Meant to be enjoyed without overthinking it.

Parallel Worlds - Frozen Fresh Hop West Coast IPA - Collaboration w/Threes Brewing - 6.9% ABV. When Adam and Josh (head brewers of Wayward Lane and Threes) met, no-one could stop them from talking about WCIPA and their love for the style (some may say its an obsession…). Parallel Worlds is an amalgamation of both breweries techniques and ideals coming together to produce a stunning display of some of the world’s finest hops. We started with the only way we know, and insanely clean and dry base consisting of a blend of our favorite pilsner malts, and a touch of malted wheat, then began layering in all of the best hops in our arsenal, plus some new and exciting products to take this beer to another level of saturation. On the hot side we loaded the kettle with our hand selected lots of Simcoe and Citra from @colemanagriculture, Simcoe CO2 extract, Citra Cryo, and a hefty dose of Simcoe Cryo Fresh from our friends @yakimachiefhops. Cryo Fresh is an exciting new product that takes fresh off the bine wet hops and turns them into pelletized cryo that can be stored frozen until use, locking in the vibrant fresh hop character. Post fermentation with one of our house lager strains, we loaded up the dry hop with a massive dose of @freestylehops Nelson Sauvin, Simcoe T90, Simcoe Cryo Fresh, and Strata Cryo. On its way to the brite we had to add one more layer to the ‘out of season’ fresh hop goodness with another new product - Nelson ‘Hop Juice’ from Freestyle. This is a take on Freestyle’s Subzero Hop Kief, made with wet/unkillned hops. The sum of all of these additions presents a dankness and saturation that leaves the senses stunned. Aromas of sweet passionfruit, sticky cannabis, and the unmistakable pungency of fresh hops burst forth from the glass. Upon the first sip, waves of flavor wash over your tongue, presenting as ripe donut peaches, pithy/sweet citrus rind, mango gelato, and an earthiness reminiscent of being in a damp coniferous forest. Lip smacking bitterness that hits and recedes quickly drives high levels of drinkability in this vibrant display of what modern WCIPA can be.

Belle
12% ABV | Imperial Stout

Brewed in loving memory of Belle, the loyal brewery pup who spent countless days greeting guests, chasing shadows, and patiently waiting for the occasional dropped snack. This decadent imperial stout is our tribute to her sweet spirit and the joy she brought to the brewery every day.

Conditioned on Oreo cookies and toasted coconut, Belle pours jet black with a rich, creamy head. Aromas of chocolate sandwich cookies, dark cocoa, and vanilla mingle with waves of toasted coconut. The has layers of fudge brownie, sweet cream filling, and coconut macaroon balanced by a gentle roast and warming finish. Silky, indulgent, and full of heart, this stout is a small way we raise a glass to the best brewery dog we could have ever asked for.

Conversational Narcissism
12% ABV | Imperial Stout

Parliament DIPA (8%ABV)🦉✨

In the quiet hours, where decisions are made with intention, a parliament gathers.

This hazy Double IPA reflects a deliberate approach to balance and structure. Nelson Sauvin offers notes of white grape and restrained tropical fruit. Riwaka contributes vibrant citrus and elevated aromatics. Simcoe provides resinous depth and a subtle pine foundation. Together, they resolve into a cohesive and luminous whole.

The body is plush yet composed, carrying saturated hop expression with measured bitterness toward a polished, intentional finish. Assertive, but never excessive.

The label, designed by @keever , captures the spirit of the release — a watchful gathering drawn to the glow of a lantern (much like the glow of this delightful hazy double IPA…).

Best enjoyed thoughtfully…

Step into the shadows of @keever — where darkness isn’t just absence, but presence. His paintings breathe in the half-light between beauty and decay, where the human form dissolves into feeling, and each brushstroke is a confession.

Keever’s art is unmistakable: dark washes of watercolour that bloom like bruises; heavy, deliberate strokes that suggest both control and chaos. His figures often appear haunted yet dignified — not monsters, but mirrors. The kind of faces and bodies that seem to emerge from memory or dream, shaped by shadow and silence.

There’s power in this restraint — in how he lets the pigment bleed, in how every composition feels alive with motion and melancholy. His work reminds us that darkness can be tender, that vulnerability is not the opposite of strength, and that beauty often hides in the quietest corners of pain.

This is not horror — it’s humanity, rendered in shadow.
