This weekend I had the pleasure of working with @kefontes and @purringtonhild to introduce folks to a variety of wild edible and medicinal plants, trees, and mushrooms that may help boost your immune system.
.
While we walked around the @thewaysideinn’s Ice House, Trout Pond, and Carding Mill Pond, we discussed the health benefits of rose hips, how to make soothing, White Pine needle tea, and the variety of leaves found growing on Sassafras trees.
.
This Fall Foraging Workshop, meant to pique the interest of beginning foragers, included a lot of fun, hands on activities: smashing acorns with a mallet (I mean a meat tenderizer!), learning how to differentiate between Turkey Tail mushrooms and its numerous look-a likes, and the best way to easily strip Curly Dock seeds from their stalks to be ground into flour.
.
During the second half of the workshop, we met in the Ford Room and sipped piping hot cups of White Pine needle tea, and snacked on homemade Curly Dock bread and White Pine needle cookies. I thoroughly enjoyed our chats and engaged in some really thought provoking conversations. I can’t wait to do it again next spring!
.
Thank you to Sally Hild and Lauren Prescott @solaeris for taking so many great photos of our outing!
