Thirty years. Thousands of young artists. Countless memories. One unforgettable legacy.

On Saturday, July 11, the curtain closed on the final performance of Rotten to the Core and, with it, the final chapter of the Irene C. Edmonds Youth Theatre Camp. What began as a summer program became a home where children discovered their voices, built lifelong friendships, found confidence, and developed a love for the arts.

For three decades, ICE Camp has been filled with laughter, music, creativity, and moments that will live on in the hearts of everyone who experienced it. This final season was a beautiful celebration of the students, counselors, faculty, staff, families, and supporters who made this program so special.

A special thank you goes to Dr. Valencia E. Matthews, whose vision, passion, and unwavering commitment shaped the Irene C. Edmonds Youth Theatre Camp into a place where generations of young people could learn, grow, and shine. Through her leadership, thousands of lives have been touched, and her impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. James Webb, whose creativity, mentorship, and dedication have inspired countless campers over the years. Through his storytelling and leadership, he helped create experiences that challenged, uplifted, and encouraged young artists to embrace their talents and discover the power of their own voices.

To every camper who stepped onto our stage and every person who supported this journey over the last 30 years, thank you for being part of the ICE Camp family.

Though the final curtain has fallen, the memories, friendships, and lessons created here will remain forever. 💜💛

Last Thursday, July 2, our Irene C. Edmonds Youth Theatre Camp (ICE Camp) students, counselors, and administrative staff traveled to Atlanta to experience the world premiere of Basura at the Alliance Theatre.

Inspired by the true story of Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra, Basura is a powerful new musical about resilience, creativity, and the transformative power of the arts. Experiences like these broaden our campers’ artistic perspectives and reinforce the lasting impact of live theatre.

🎭 ICE Camp Presents: Rotten to the Core 🎭
Written & Directed by James Webb, Ph.D.
Celebrating 30 years of ICE Camp and honoring Irene C. Edmonds, this exciting new children’s production tells the story of Corey Rivers, who promises to bring fun back to Westbrook Middle School and inspires students to rally behind his campaign. But as questions of fairness, truth, and artificial intelligence begin to divide the student body, Westbrook finds itself facing a choice far bigger than any election.
Rotten to the Core explores leadership, accountability, and the courage it takes to do what’s right when the answers aren’t easy.
📅 Performance Dates:
• July 10 at 10:00 AM & 7:30 PM
• July 11 at 2:00 PM
Join us at the Charles Winter Wood Theatre as our campers bring this original story to life on stage. We can’t wait to share it with you!

🎭 ICE Camp Day 3: Callbacks!
Today, our campers took the next step in the audition process as they participated in callbacks under the direction of Mr. James Webb, alongside our dedicated camp counselors and staff.
Callbacks give our creative team an opportunity to see performers in specific roles, explore character chemistry, and discover how each camper brings a story to life. We are so proud of the confidence, preparation, and talent displayed today!
The future of theatre is bright, and these young performers continue to impress us every day. 🌟
