DRUM ROLL PLEASE… 🥁 PASTOR WON 7–1! 😂 We kicked off our 2026 Back-to-School Activation with a little friendly competition between Kareem “Preach” Grimes and Rev. Dr. Dwaine A. Jackson—and apparently Pastor came ready to do more than preach. 7–1! 😂 But that cornhole game was really the beginning of something much bigger. Pastor Jackson understood that this year’s Back-to-School event needed to be more than simply handing out supplies. He wanted engagement. He wanted our young people and families laughing, playing, eating, talking and spending time together. He wanted the church and the community to actually experience one another. And that’s what happened. After the game, families were fed. Young people received shoes, school supplies and other donations designed to help them and their families prepare for the year ahead. Most importantly, our community got to simply come together and enjoy one another. We owe a HUGE thank you to Kareem “Preach” Grimes for spending the day with us, pouring into our young people and bringing such incredible energy to Bryant Temple. Kareem, we appreciate you, we’re rooting for you, and we wish you continued success and blessings in every project and opportunity ahead. To every volunteer, vendor, partner, donor, staff member and community member who showed up—thank you. You helped turn an idea into a day our families could enjoy. And to Rev. Dr. Dwaine A. Jackson, thank you for continuing to push us toward a church that doesn’t simply invite the community inside, but finds new ways to engage, serve and grow alongside it. This year gave us a foundation. Next year, we build on it. And every year after that, we get better. Finally, to every student who walked through Bryant Temple that day: Have an AMAZING 2026–2027 school year. Be curious. Be courageous. Work hard. Ask for help when you need it. Take care of one another. And never forget that there is a community here that believes in you. We’ll see you next year. ❤️ Rev. Dr. Dwaine A. BEFORE YOU CHASE THE DREAM… FIND THE PURPOSE. 🎬💯 At our Ready, Set, Rise! Back-to-School Community Activation, Kareem Grimes sat down with our young people and gave them something worth more than anything we could put in a backpack: wisdom. Keith shared that he wants to become an actor, and Kareem gave him a simple challenge: First, find your purpose. Then get REALLY good at it. And Keith’s response told us everything we needed to know about his mindset. 😂 He admitted reading isn’t exactly his favorite thing—but if becoming a great actor means becoming a better reader, then he’s willing to do the work. That’s what Ready, Set, Rise is about. Not simply giving our children shoes, backpacks and school supplies—but helping them discover who God created them to become and surrounding them with people who can help them get there. 📖 “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings…” — Proverbs 22:29 A special thank you to Kareem Grimes for showing up, answering questions and pouring real experience into the next generation. At Bryant Temple AME Los Angeles, we believe community work means more than meeting today’s need. It means helping prepare somebody for tomorrow’s purpose. A community church doing community work. And we’re just getting started. ❤️ #ReadySetRise #BryantTempleAMELosAngeles #BryantTempleCDC #KareemGrimes #YouthDevelopment Purpose NextGeneration LeimertPark SouthLA CommunityChurch FaithInAction
