POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I had an amazing time hosting a Housing Summit last night at Friends Seminary, bringing together policy experts, my colleagues in government, community members, and organizers to talk about the creation and preservation of affordable housing in our neighborhoods. Thank you to everyone who came to make their voices heard and particularly to Deputy Mayor Bozorg and HPD Commissioner Levy for sharing their insights.

It’s always easy celebrating @keithpowersnyc and supporting his re-election campaign for November.

Assemblymember Powers is a great partner to the City Council and an absolute champion for us in Albany. The East Side is lucky to have him!

This afternoon in an email sent to the Conservancy and other community contacts, AMC Theatres reaffirmed its desire to keep AMC Kips Bay 15 open. The email is from the company’s Chief Operations, Marketing and Development Officer. ⁣
⁣
In part, the email reads that AMC "would love to have the opportunity to stay and continue serving the Kips Bay community." ⁣
⁣
AMC's 15-screen movie theater faces closure amid plans by NYU Langone Health to take over the property.⁣
⁣
The email from AMC Theaters' corporate headquarters in Kansas comes as community opposition to the theater's planned closure continues to engage community members, media, elected officials, and groups including Manhattan East Community Association. AMC Kips Bay is one of the East Side's few remaining movie theaters and its only IMAX offering.
⁣
⁣Whether an agreement can be reached that would allow AMC Kips Bay 15 to continue operating remains an open question.

AMC says loud and clear, “We want to stay.”

In a new statement to @thecityny, AMC confirms that it wants to stay and continue serving neighborhood moviegoers for years to come.

AMC also confirms that its landlord has terminated the theater’s lease, with showtimes currently scheduled through January 3, 2027.

The article also includes MHNA’s perspective on the importance of preserving neighborhood institutions and giving residents a voice in the future of Kips Bay Plaza.

Thank you to Kaitlyn Schwanemann of The City Reporter for continuing to cover this important neighborhood story.

Great to join my colleagues in government, @NYC_DOT and my neighbors to announce new upgrades coming to Avenue B! After years of collaboration today marks the start of a great project to improve public safety and accessibility while keeping traffic moving efficiently.

As community opposition continues over NYU Langone Health's planned takeover of the AMC Kips Bay movie theater near St. Vartan Park, a battle of signs is unfolding in the neighborhood.

Newly spotted NYU Langone street-level signs appear at a future NYU Langone location at 195 Lexington Avenue (top left) and an existing location at One Park Avenue (bottom left) where the healthcare system has had offices since 1999.

They are starting to clash with signs appearing nearby that criticize NYU Langone and that direct readers to SaveKipsBay.org, which has put the planned departure of the multiplex as a signature piece of its advocacy.

The site states, "NYU Langone already dominates huge portions of Kips Bay. Now it has bought the block that holds our only movie theater and our biggest grocery store: AMC Kips Bay 15, with the only IMAX on Manhattan's East Side, and Fairway ... We live here. We raise families here. Kips Bay needs restaurants, stores, entertainment and places for residents to actually enjoy their neighborhood, not block after block of institutional medical space."

The two pictured signs that oppose NYU Langone's expansion — spotted today on Lexington Avenue in view of the incoming NYU Langone facility — are among several noticed in the area today.

At the October 8 Community Board 6 meeting, NYU Langone’s written statement about Kips Bay Plaza and AMC Kips Bay was read aloud.

We’re sharing the full statement, word for word, so neighbors can read it for themselves.

Great to stop by @carpentersnyc for the NYC Carpenters’ Fall Political Reception! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with labor leaders and elected officials, strengthen partnerships, and reaffirm our shared commitment to supporting union workers and their families. #UnionStrong #CarpentersRISE
