POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Long before she watched over my restaurant, I carried her with me.

Literally. Kali Ma is tattooed on my body.

Today, during Durga Puja, a celebration of the Divine Mother, I wanted to share why I commissioned @positivestreetart for this mural for Aatma and what she means to me.

When I look at Kali Ma, I see my mother.

My mom raised me as a single parent. She was fierce in her love for me. Protective, strong, and willing to face whatever the world threw at us. Her love wasn’t always gentle or quiet. Sometimes it was fierce, unwavering, and powerful.

That’s what Kali Ma has always represented to me. The kind of love that will stand against anything to protect those it holds dear.

But there’s another part of her story that has meant a lot to me.

In one traditional telling, Kali becomes so consumed by the intensity of battle that her destructive dance cannot be stopped. Shiva lies in her path, and when she steps upon him, she recognizes him and bites her tongue in a moment of sudden awareness. (A sign of an apology)

There are many interpretations of this story, but the lesson I’ve always taken from it is deeply personal.

Even in our greatest moments of anger, we have the capacity to stop, recognize the humanity before us, and choose empathy.

Love fiercely. Lead with empathy. We try to embody this as a team and as a restaurant.

Those are lessons my mother taught me, and they’re lessons I carry into my life and into Aatma.

When I commissioned this mural, I wanted her presence to be more than something beautiful on a wall.

I wanted her to be a reminder of the strength of a mother’s love, the importance of compassion, and the responsibility we have to care for one another.

To everyone celebrating Durga Puja, I wish you strength, peace, and the blessings of the Divine Mother.

Shubho Durga Puja. 🌺

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - @bostonglobe

We are proud to share this glowing review from today's Boston Globe. Less than one year ago we opened the doors to @aatmaatwidowmaker and we could never imagined what year 1 would bring.

So proud of Chef @keithsarasin, The Aatma crew, and the Widowmaker crew who day in and day out bring their very best to deliver a great experience and have the ability to make thier vision a daily reality.

They don't give out six star reviews, we asked... they told us they don't really give out 5 star reviews either.

HARVEST. MEMORY. MIGRATION.

Every dish comes from somewhere.

Sometimes it’s a memory of walking through South Mumbai with people who changed the way I understand Indian food.

Sometimes it’s the first time you taste something familiar in a completely unexpected way.

And sometimes it’s standing in New England, surrounded by apples, squash, kale, and cranberries, wondering what happens when the place you call home becomes part of the food you’ve spent years learning to cook.

That’s what this menu is about.

The people who taught me. The places I’ve traveled. The meals I still think about years later. And the ingredients growing right here around us.

This isn’t about reinventing Indian food. It’s about continuing to learn from it, respecting where it comes from, and allowing those experiences to shape what we cook.

Some dishes are memories. Some are experiments. Some are love letters to people and places.

All of them have a story.

Menu 4.0 is here.

Come hungry. Ask questions. Let us tell you about the food.

With love and gratitude,
Keith & the Aatma team

Egg Salad Parsi Style
Parsi-spiced eggs, chili chutney mayo, salt-and-vinegar potato sticks, fried challah.

At Aatma, chef @keithsarasin egg salad pays homage to his mentor, Dr. Kurush Dalal (@kurushdalal ), and a meal Dalal cooked for him during a visit to India.
Dalal prepared salli par edu: eggs with potato sticks and green chilies, served with toast, and shared a story about his mother, a celebrated Mumbai caterer. When she cooked eggs with ghee, she made sure every last drop was scraped from the pan.
Sarasin carries that memory into an egg salad with chili chutney mayo and salt-and-vinegar potato sticks. Fried challah gives it texture and body. It is his own interpretation of a meal shared with his teacher, shaped by the food and family story that stayed with him.

We just sold out 8,000th burger in just 10 months… The crazy thing is… We are now selling over 1,000 of these a month. Not bad for something that started as a joke.

What is the Aatma burger?
Halal smash b*%f patties, a house blend of 12 spices, smoky Aatma sauce, Amul cheese, and achari pickled onions.
The Aatma Burger began with an online troll. During Keith’s earlier pop-up days, someone mocked the idea of his Indian restaurant by asking whether he would make a burger. Sarasin started considering the question seriously.
He remembered eating a chapli kebab on a trip to India and recognizing a connection to a smash patty. That memory became the starting point for a blend of 12 spices used to season Aatma’s halal ground beef.
The smoky Aatma sauce took roughly three months to develop as chef worked toward the spicy, sour, sweet, and salty interplay he wanted, the chatpata quality that drives the burger’s flavor. Amul cheese and achari pickled onions complete it.
For Keith, the burger also opens a conversation about the assumptions people bring to Indian food, including whose eating traditions those assumptions leave out.
