🥇on Rd1 of @scottishcx at Muir of Ord, just outside Inverness. A couple of weeks off to recover from the 7hr hardtail race at the XCM World Champs - body needed it!

New 26/27 CX bikes only arrived the day before, so was a bit of a jump on and see what happens kind of a start to the season. Winged-it 🤣

Great day in superfast conditions. Sent it a bit. Big thanks to everyone who helped make it happen.

Looking forward to the mud arriving…

On Saturday we hosted our two fellow clubs at Abriachan for a coaching development day run by the excellent British Cycling tutor, Keith Stocker. Pete, Cieran and I were pleased to be joined by Liz and Stephen from the Black Isle Mountain Bike Club, Claire and Bella from Ben Wyvis Cycle Club, and Mac, representing for both BWCC and Highland Trail Riders - our local trail association.

The group was a mix of newly trained leaders and highly experienced coaches, leaders and professionals. The main focus was on how to make our sessions fun and engaging. This was done by developing an understanding of how gamifying coaching approaches and adding in play elements can turn rudimentary drills into effective coaching sessions.

Keith ran my British Cycling Coaching in Context course back at the start of the year, with another group of extremely experienced candidates. This was a great progression from the BC Activity Coach training that I had completed the year before. It has allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of all the skills required from a coach, especially when riders begin to advance and progress beyond the basics and start riding steeper, more technical terrain, and of course the skills involved when those wheels leave the ground! With many of our riders looking to participate in the junior riding events and races held across the country it’s essential that we are providing them with the best support we can, as well as helping riders of all levels and aspirations become safe, capable and confident on the trails.

The BC coaching courses are very effective when run in parallel with the BC leadership stream. I had already completed my level 3 leader with the amazing team at Glenmore Lodge and come from a background as a Qualified primary teacher and outdoor educational practitioner. Running development days like this allows us to continue our professional journey, building on our skill sets and knowledge as well as bringing in newer perspectives.

If you see Keith, tell him you’ve seen the photos 🤣

Work probably shouldn’t be this much fun, but there was plenty giggles and EVERYONE crashed, many, many times. If you don’t, you’re not trying!

Rd1 @scottishcycling @scottishcx tommorrow, look out for @keithstockercoaching 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️

After the recap, time to up your game? Fundamentals, moves to Progression: the SAND episode 🥳

Some say he’s got studs for toes, and he can lower his blood pressure to just 12psi, depending on how muddy it is? All we know is, @keithstockercoaching is called the CX STIG!

If you’re heading to the double-header National Trophy at Irvine Beach, maybe Koksijde, Mol or even the World Champs at Ostende - then you need to get in your flow on the sand. Here’s how:

Probably our biggest signing to date? We are very pleased to welcome @joe_joecurran to the Team HUP squad.

“As a beginner rider who’s only been cycling for 23 years, I’m surprised my potential has been spotted so early. I’m sure it’s on my own merit and nothing to do with the fact @graceinglis is already on the team? The team seem ok, for lycra types…”

Another Scottish resident rider, Joe plans to hit the cyclocross hard on selected North East series and @scottishcx rounds, NT and Belgium on his HUP evo2’s.

On a recent training session @keithstockercoaching was spotted quietly asking Joe for some tips on sand. Praise indeed 🤷‍♂️

Keen to get back into Cross, life in the Tweed Valley on his mountain bike, means it won’t take long, even if there is no sand 💪
