And before we knew it, the cycling was done and we were at the Banouba Ba Foundation meeting the children and the community of Kolda. We also delivered a cheque for £17,000 - although we are still collecting for the cause! You’ll find a link to the GoFundMe page in my bio.

BUBR Senegal Ride Days #3 and #4 as we moved into the south of the country towards Kolda, where the Banouna Ba Foundation is based. Hot, seriously hot, but we did the miles together and in style 💪🏾☀️ @blackunitybikeride @toksytoks @avarma606 @bendwimoh @sory.h

@blackunitybikeride event, empowering black people via pedal power. Riding my custom @freddiegrubb Bicycle from Layton East London. Through the streets of London, taking in some of the famous landmarks, and some of the not so famous.
We all ended the day, eating, dancing, and those who wanted getting massaged. All set in the leafy surroundings of Dulwich Park south London.

It was a truly family affair, cyclists and riders from the diversity of the black community came together. Queens and kings cycling together side by side, like a Swan and her Cygnet glide on the surface of water in perfect harmony.

THE BLACK UNITY BIKE RIDE exists because of the under-representation of #blackcyclist at all levels of the sport within the public domain, from the elite level to grassroots. BUBR provides a safe space we’re cyclist and riders from a diverse background can feel welcome and also inspired to get and remain so.

Inspiring and planting the seeds for our community to grow. UNITY IS THE KEY! One perfect love every time @uptownyardie

Two months ago I left my job, left my home and left behind the fear of the unknown.

My journey started with the most incredible experience cycling around Rwanda with @blackunitybikeride and now two months later I’m still exploring mama Africa and feeling truly grateful for this life.

One month left of this trip.
The journey continues…

TUGENDE! 🚀

Day 6 - The Finale

Unity. Empowerment. Love. BUBR Rwanda delivered on all three counts. The never-ending climbs, incredible descents and stunning landscape’s had forced us all to be present in the moment. We had pushed our individual limits, willed each other on, and bonded as family.

We ended the final day of the tour with one last brutal climb, a parting gift from The Land of a Thousand Hills. And at the top we were euphoric, embracing each other as winners do. This beautiful country, this amazing adventure was now etched in our memories where it will remain for the rest of our lives. Thank you BUBR, thank you Rwanda.

Day 5

This was going to be tough. 140km, 2000+ metres of elevation, high altitude. We had driven the route the day before on our way to the starting point in the northern town of Gisenyi. The bus journey had been filled with chatter about tactics, gradients, nutrition, altitude sickness etc, some were even talking themselves out of starting altogether but we had to set aside any fears and trust all our training was enough to see us across the finish line.

On the morning of the ride we all gathered at breakfast, many of us nursing dodgy bellies from Tilapia fish (or maybe the salad) served for dinner the night before. After a flurry of bathroom breaks to reset our systems we left our hotel and cycled along Lake Kivu looking out towards Congo. Legs warmed up, we began climbing, and climbing, for 30km we climbed. It felt like a never-ending assault on legs and lungs and approaching 1000m of elevation, feed station in sight, the hardest part of the day was over, job done.

Once my heart rate and breathing returned to normal I felt relieved, relaxed even, I was going to revel in my achievement and enjoy the remaining 110km. Two more big climbs, three epic descents and some of the best cycling of my life.

Day 4

Rest day they said, just a leisurely mountain bike ride along some light trails, they said. Yeeeeeaaaah right. We arrived at the African Rising Cycling Center in Ruhengeri by bus. Home of Team Rwanda it’s a peaceful and tranquil training camp set in beautiful grounds. On a quick tour of the facilities we were fortunate to meet the team mechanic in the on-site workshop littered with envy inducing Pinarello and Ridley bikes. After a quick photo op we then hit those ‘light’ trails and although this wasn’t a ‘rest day’ (by any stretch of the imagination) I had the most fun throwing a mountain bike around on loose gravel and rocks with a carefree attitude reminiscent of my childhood days. A barbecue and live entertainment awaited us back at the center to our relief and we basked in the sunshine replenishing our reserves. Bellies full and lips tingling with fiery pepper sauce we rose to acknowledge the Twin Lakes Cycling Academy and presented them with a cheque for £10k. A proud and poignant moment for us all……..we did that 🖤

Day 3

Kigali to Rwamagana, 51km and one big climb. That day I found myself at the front of the lead peloton and challenged myself by staying there for as long as possible while soaking up the uninterrupted views ahead. When we finally entered that big climb the ‘mountain goats’ among us cruised ahead and we stopped to regroup at the top next to a small roadside cafe who served us celebratory coffees and hot chocolates while we cheered on everyone else as they arrived.

We went on to cycle part of the 2nd stage of the Tour du Rwanda and after a brief lunch signed off the day sprawled out in the sunshine for an al-fresco style yoga session courtesy of fellow cyclist @yogabydionne

THE REAL HEROES OF THE RETREAT 😇♥️

As we have all tried our hardest to adjust back to home cooking post retreat, all guests and myself included reminisce in awe about all the delicious dishes we were served by our chef extraordinaire - Kim 😎

I am so lucky to have found Kim as this is a working relationship I will not let go of and I’d like to express my gratitude to what she did for my team. Kim went above and beyond daily to ensure we were being fed the healthiest and freshest foods.

When Kim and I were putting the menus together, I found my mouth watering every time I got an email from her. 😂 I have never quite experienced such an effect that simply by reading a menu I am feeling as if I had the actual meal in front of me.

Kim buys organic, locally grown food that is in season only and you can taste the difference. You can also feel the difference as food this fresh and light leaves you feeling full of energy and not lethargic or uncomfortable. We cannot thank you enough Kim!

And a very special mention goes to Pablo as he was part of the dream team who made sure everybody was happy and well fed. 😇

But you both were even more than that - you were our family and the best companions to have around for a whole week and to banter with. I miss you both already, I know we all do!

Thank you for everything and I cannot wait to work with you again! ♥️

7 weeks ago, I started Calisthenics classes with @raheltheamazon What can I say - its been AMAZING. She has great energy, is motivating, and the classes were soo much fun!!

Decided to make a spontaneous decision and booked onto Rahel's Calisthenics and Lifestyle retreat in Grenada, Spain after attending 1 class!! I followed her around London, might as well follow her to another country 🤷‍♀️ (....I'm not a stalker, I promise 🤣🤣)

Still a long way to go, but I feel I'm getting stronger. My handstand falling practice is also going well 🤣🤣

Thank you Rahel!! You organised a wicked retreat! You've brought together a great group of people, staying in an ace villa, doing Cali in beautiful places. Everything was just 👌👌. I had a fab time...and I can't wait till the next one!!! x

Thanks also to @danicakennedy_ my fellow north west gal for the support, car raves and the Yoga journey. I don't feel too scared of yoga anymore! x

And thanks to Kim @the_travelling_kitchen_ our private chef, for being hilarious, keeping us our stomachs full with yummy healthy food (and the contraband 🤣🤣🤣) xx

To the gang - it wouldn't have been the same without you - Miss you all already xx

Here's some clips to summarise our week!
