Going on #LTIR for an #LBI.
Many thanks to my immediate home care team @ginabcollins @kellercollins_08 @syljoy94 my mom Judy, & the surgical team @bouldercentre #DrStevenGross, for taking such good care of me in my crisis. I snapped my fibula, and ripped two of my ankle ligaments (grade 3 stylee). It was some bad ice and a rut while playing an ice hockey game. I have played and reff'd well over 1,500 night & lunch & friendly games in the past 12 years, had my occasional shoulder & rib & minor ankle bumps & bruises, but nothing this terrible. My right skate wedged into the boards after I caught an edge and fell during a night league game. Full body weight twist on a stuck boot, no bueno. #MaisonneuveFracture

Sucks, but, la vida continua.

Let the recovery and healing commence. I have never taken it for granted what it means to walk with my wife at sunset, hike 10+ miles with her in #RMNP (Timber Lake Trail FTW), trail run on my own with a book on tape, camp with the fam in faraway places, golf, disc golf, play hockey, ski with the kids, snowboard, dance to live music, climb the stairs at Red Rocks, drive, play with my kids, cook on the grill, clean up the kitchen, climb a ladder to water the interior plants, and even pull weeds in the garden. Not once. Present for ALL of it. So, plenty of solid motivation to follow the timelines and protocols to get back at it and be my physical self again, & re-expand my opportunities to be consciously present in dynamic body movement in this life. Goal is to come back better than ever, and be able to resume all the things.

PS: Thank your feet, thank your legs, thank your hands & arms, don't forget your internal organs, & always give a shout out to the awareness programming that runs your brain software. Its just like telling your loved ones you love them, especially when the world turns upside down. Tip for starting each day: When your feet touch the floor after waking up from sleeping, have them send a blessing straight from your toes out across the entire earth, all the way around, and right to the back of your heels. Then, hug the earth with that blessing through your feet.

@kellercollins_08 Appreciation Post:
When the schedules line up and your teenage kid asks you to go skiing for a day, always say, "yes!" Had a blast with the boy, making turns @ Loveland yesterday. No traffic on either side of the trip, no lines @ the lifts, plenty of terrain to explore (despite the ongoing worst winter snowfall season ever) and time well spent catching up on life. I didn't even have to drive.

My favorite part though: While sessioning Chair 6, (something we've never done since we usually rip Chair 4 & ski the open bowls and lower trees there, with some occasional trips up Chair 9 to patrol the headwall), we both sat in astonishment of the natural landscape that the lift ride provides. Porcupine Ridge (12,752 ft) is the backdrop of sheer rocky mountain glory that sets up nicely above the Chair 6 dismount. This is my 20th year of living in Colorado, and I still can't get enough of these views, these moments, these experiences where words and pictures can only hint at a mere sniff of the full feeling of presence and awareness that we can get when everything is connected thru the filter we are given.

@kellercollins_08 then said something that made me so proud, something that made me feel even more alive than we were already experiencing, something that inspired this public post in this digital diary so I won't forget the feeling. He said, (paraphrasing since I nearly fell out of the chair), "This is why I love being in nature, being in the mountains. Look, right there, I could just sit in a chair and stare at that whole mountain side for the entire day. I love coming here. I love being humbled by nature."

Thats it. Thats the moment right there. If you told me I could get this far as a person, as a dad, and get my kid to appreciate the mountains as much as I do, and then have 'em express it on his own with uprovoked & sincere intention & feeling on a short lift ride during a fantastic ski day session??? Then I would tell you, that is when I knew everything is going to be alright, that the world is good, that the show of life, the struggle and strife, its all part of the schedule and plan. Embrace the f*ck out of it and get going, keep going.
