Had the privilege today of touring the United Nations Art Collection with @kelly__franck. Truly one of New York’s best-kept secrets.

A standout moment was seeing the tapestry of Picasso’s Guernica, commissioned by Nelson Rockefeller in 1955. An artwork that continues to resonate with staggering power.

The collection itself is a remarkable assembly of gifts from member states, associations, and individuals, sculptures, paintings, tapestries, mosaics and each reflecting the cultural identity and diplomacy of its nation. Together they form a quiet yet profound museum within the UN Headquarters, where art speaks the language of peace and shared humanity. Thank you to the incredible Gabby Lyons for this special afternoon @gabby_zen @unitednations

Anderson Ranch—Aspen recap.
What a wonderful week I had here in the mountains, breathing in all the clean air. So much happened in such a relatively short time. So many art friends and heroes were here: @mickalenethomas (unfortunately not pictured), @bradkahlhamer @catherineopiestudio , @lindagoodebryant , and @paulanthonysmithstudio

Then there was my class—with the most amazing interns, @nyaserano and @kate_salke (the intern in @bradkahlhamer painting workshop). My workshop, titled “Abstracting Reality”, included a group of phenomenal students who took the leap. The theme was “Light” and “Play.” A huge thank you to all of them for their courage and trust. Teaching at the Ranch is challenging in the most beautiful way—so much growth happens in such a short period of time.

Finally, we made a stop at @aspenartfair_org @hoteljeromeauberge with some of my students, and saw lots of great artworks, including some @miles.mcenery.gallery

It was a whirlwind of a week following a whirlwind of a week, during a busy summer filled with both grief and beauty. I am grateful. Peace.

Today marks the completion of my fourth week in New York City. A year ago on June 4 I left this place a shell of myself. What a difference a year can make. I leave feeling fulfilled and happy for the memories and experiences I’ve obtained.

I’m taking a detour through San Antonio for a few days to see family and friends. Soon after, back home to Tucson. I can’t wait to be back.

Summer of 2021, I took a day trip to Albuquerque to pick up my future furry roommate, @byronthedawg. On the way, Rigoberto Luna connected me with Vicente Telles, a local Albuquerque artist. Vicente was kind enough to show me around a few local spots and introduced me to @mojobrando and his studio. The following year, we’d all be part of an ambitious co-curated exhibition across several spaces in Albuquerque, titled “Son de Allá y Son de Acá.” The exhibition included artists from across Texas, New Mexico, and California. The show was successful and went on to be highlighted on Hyperallergic. Round 2 begins this Saturday at @chicanopark_museum, and this time the exhibition includes several Arizona artists. Vicente has been doing a lot of heavy lifting by transporting a lot of the work himself across state lines. We met once again in Phoenix this past weekend and this time it felt like I was returning the favor of hosting. In real time, these feel very much like casual moments, but I like to think it’s all history in the making as we embark on this journey together. Thanks for doing what you do, Vicente.

@ethertongallery yesterday to preview my exhibition before the opening party on Saturday, 9/23/23. I am beyond thrilled. A big thank you to @terryetherton and @photomomma888 (2nd photo) for being so enthusiastic about this work, which is very different yet still an extension of my figurative practice.

And to @kelly__franck (3rd photo) for assisting me with all sorts of art related projects including some of these text pieces, earlier this year when I needed it most.

And I love seeing my sketchbook art (photo 5) in those beautiful vintage glass cases in the front room of the gallery.

Thank you @elrafaesparza, @team__oh, and @mocatucson for welcoming us into your process and space, and facilitating an opportunity to work alongside established artists
.
Thank you @uarizonaschoolofart (and specifically @sama_alshaibi and @ellenemcmahon !) for working extra hard to ensure this internship happened
.
Thank you to @fukyeahraven for helping with lighting and @saint__patrickryan for the incredible documentation of the pieces
.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the show whether you produced work or served as a curator, you all truly made this experience more beautiful than I ever imagined it would be
.
And last but certainly not least, thank you to my M’ma whose persistence in passing down our family’s history inspired Commorancy, my sister and other friends who helped me obtain various pieces of my installation (lookin’ at you @tim_schoenrock 😉), and to my uncle who graciously scanned in family documents I didn’t have access to previously. Without you all, Commorancy could not have come together ❤️
