It’s hard to believe everything that has happened at Bushwick Gallery over the past six months.

From Winter Studio Residency and O’Malley Winter Works to Soft Shadows, Surface Tension, Gesture in Time, and Botanic Bodies, the gallery has been filled with nonstop creativity, experimentation, conversation, and incredible contemporary art.

Over the last half year, we’ve welcomed artists from around the world, showcased hundreds of works, celebrated artwork sales, hosted collectors and curators, and continued building a space centered on bold ideas and emerging contemporary voices.

We’ve also been incredibly grateful for growing media coverage and support from platforms including ArtRabbit, Whitehot Magazine, UP Magazine and Fine Art News, helping expand the conversation around what’s happening inside the gallery walls.

And honestly, this still feels like only the beginning.

As we welcome Studio Summer 2026 and continue planning future exhibitions, residencies, collaborations, and international projects, we are more excited than ever for what’s ahead.

Thank you to every artist, curator, collector, writer, and visitor who has helped shape this chapter with us.

A Space Gallery NYC is pleased to present HAPPY HOUR, a group exhibition bringing together thirteen contemporary artists from New York and abroad in a multi-disciplinary gallery presentation curated by Gallery Director Xianglong Li. The exhibition opens on the evening of May 1 and runs through May 7, 2026 at A Space Gallery in Brooklyn, New York.

“Happy Hour” is that familiar window where everything feels easier, funnier, and less serious than it probably should be. Drinks arrive before we have decided how we feel. Conversations start before we know what we want to say.

This exhibition presents the work of thirteen selected artists whose works respond to the culture, mood, and psychology of happy hour. Through the mediums of painting, photography, video, installation, and performance, the artists presented here reflect on pleasure, habit, release, self-control, social performance, and the emotional complexity that can exist within seemingly casual acts of drinking.

A full room, one voice, no compromise.

Earlier this month, Kelly Ahern took over Bushwick Gallery for Solo Statement 2026: Doesn’t Play Well with Others—a one-night, non commercial exhibition built for work that needs complete control of space.

Her presentation, Surface Tension, didn’t ask to be understood quickly. It held its ground. Unstretched canvases, raw edges, and a timeline of work that pulled viewers into process instead of conclusion. The room stayed with it. People stayed with it.

This program is about conviction over readiness. No sales pressure. No dilution. Just the work, exactly as it needs to be seen.

Kelly delivered that fully.

One artist. One space. One uninterrupted vision.

Surface Tension has come to a close.

For one night, Bushwick Gallery became entirely Kelly Ahern’s—an environment shaped with precision, vulnerability, and a deep commitment to process over resolution.

Her work did not ask to be understood quickly. It asked to be experienced. Forms shifted, dissolved, and reassembled in real time. In Detritus, Tunnel Vision, and Take Your Time, there was a quiet insistence on staying with the image as it evolved. In It’s Roomie in Here and Guardian Goddess Night, that language expanded—becoming more immersive, more atmospheric, more fully lived in.

There is a distinct intelligence in the way Kelly allows a surface to remain open. Nothing is overdetermined. Each mark carries the memory of another. Each figure resists finality. What emerges is not a fixed image, but a continuous negotiation between material, body, and time.

The installation held that arc. Moving through the space felt less like viewing a series of works and more like entering a developing language—one that deepens, complicates, and refuses to resolve on command.

This is what Solo Statement is meant to be. One artist. One space. A complete and uninterrupted vision.

Kelly, this was a powerful and deeply considered presentation. It stayed with people.

Bushwick shows up for art that makes you stop.

Last Friday with Kelly Ahern’s Surface Tension, people didn’t rush. They stayed. They looked. They let the work do something to them.

That’s why this neighborhood matters. It gives space for artists to take risks and for viewers to actually feel something, not just scroll past it.

That one stayed with people.

Kelly Ahern’s Surface Tension took over the room for a night and did not let go. The work was not just seen it was felt. Unresolved physical immediate. Exactly what Solo Statement is meant to do.

The space held a single voice uninterrupted. Kelly used all of it. The response was real full room real engagement and a kind of energy you cannot stage.

This is why the program exists. To give an artist the space to say something fully without compromise.
