Studio visit with Cynthia Lin @cynthialinartist. I visited her studio late August in Brooklyn after seeing her exhibition at Satchel Projects a year before. I knew she would be a perfect fit in our new show “Persistence of Vision” opening next Saturday October 24th, 5-8pm. This one is going to be a barn burner folks, you don’t want to miss it. This sprawling exhibition features 12 artists from LA, NYC and San Diego. Other artists included are:

When you know, you know…

It’s not often I purchase a piece without a plan, but love can do funny things to a person and I fell hard for this piece. Of all the impulse buys a person can make, artwork is rarely one I regret.

In my experience, the most memorable pieces are equal parts beautiful and unexpected.

Have a favorite impulse buy? Tell me about it in the comments.

Been feeling so grateful for all the conversations I had at my show at Foyer-LA. I've always wanted my work to open dialogue, but over the last several years organizing events that directly initiate dialogue has become an integral part of my creative practice - parallel to and supportive of the objects I make.

Immense gratitude to @foyer_la for supporting me to do this kind of work. A few highlights:

Photo 1:
“Disability Creatives Gathering”
Broadly defined as artists and thinkers who work with themes of disability, illness and bodily change. All strangers to each other, we came together to share about our practices and plant seeds for new friendships. (If you would like to be invited to future gatherings dm me - I hope to organize more.)

Photo 2-3:
The Queer Spa Network hosted a beautiful afternoon for queer healers with a sound bath, knowledge exchange, and wonderful food! Queer Spa Network (QSN) is a group of autonomous Queer artists and healers invested in rest, healing, and pleasure for our communities.

Photo 4:
I collaborated with Deb Klowden Mann to organize an event that featured a reading of her poetic essays about illness, support, and patient advocacy, and a practical discussion about navigating our healthcare system. Due to a health emergency this event didn't happen but lm including it because in disabled communities sometimes the organizing is the event. The conversations and efforts that happen amongst those of us who are sometimes bedridden are a huge victory even if they don't make it to the public.

I was honored to do a walkthrough of my show guided by Ted Meyer’s insightful questions about how my health story impacts and inspires my work. Ted has dedicated his life to helping people talk openly about illness and creativity.
