Please welcome to the (graduation) stage…DR. TOMM!

In the decade we’ve been in each other’s lives, I’ve spent 8 of those years watching from the sidelines as you toiled away so diligently, relentlessly, thoughtfully and passionately at your doctoral degree. Today I watched from the stands as they called your name. You walked across the stage and into the next chapter of your life. Accomplishment is too small a word to describe what you’ve done. You believe in impact, even when you cannot see its fruit. You create a sense of belonging, effortlessly, with every person who is lucky enough to sit across from you. We are all so proud of you. That part is easy. But ringing underneath that, hope.

When I need a reminder that there are good people who give a damn enough to do the work; should I ever forget that some really do want to leave this place better than they found it; when it feels like giving up is the easier choice; when humanity feels like it’s teetering on the edge of something with shadows: I need only look to you.

Condragulations to the freakin best there is!!!

2025 asked a lot of me—and gave me so much in return.

January began in motion: @sundanceorg for @ohhi_movie , snowboarding with my siblings, and sleepovers with my nieces that reminded me how grounding family can be.
 February tested my grit: my first jiu jitsu tournament, and I took silver at blue belt. @gregorgraciejiujitsu
 March marked a beginning: launching @intimacywithshelby, a vision that had been quietly growing for a long time.
 April brought the opportunity to be an Intimacy Coordinator on Jackrabbit by @ballardcboyd , and I fell in love with the beaches, rainforest, and people of Puerto Rico.
 May brought another “oh wow” moment: being quoted by @coriannritchey for @womenshealthmag and celebrating my partner, the greatest person on earth.
 June felt like pure joy—bringing Hank to the Sullivans’ bay house, celebrating Oh, Hi at @tribeca , and dancing my heart out at Pride.
 July was full-circle magic: my friend @cassidykrug book Resurfaced, which I was interviewed for, launched, and Oh, Hi came out in theaters.
 August was sweet and full, chatting with @gabriellekassel assel for a @menshealthmag piece, a crab feast with the Sullivans, and showing my sister New York. We also celebrated Hank’s first birthday!I (They grow up so fast.)

September challenged me as I navigated life on crutches and practiced a new kind of patience with my body.
 October marked a shift in my practice as I expanded how I want to grow, both as a therapist and in Intimacy Coordination, and had a great convo with @erikawynn an article with @flytrap_official
 In November, I turned 35 (Thank you to the queens at @lipsnyc for helping me celebrate!) embraced aging in unexpected ways, reconnected with loved ones, and saw the world through my 10-month-old nephew’s eyes.
 December was overwhelming in familiar ways, but grounding, time in Utah with my family, meeting my brother’s baby, and soaking up playtime with my nieces.
