BEHIND EVERY GREAT DENTURE… 🦷

There’s more to suction dentures than meets the eye.

Day 01 of the Ästhetisch Suction Denture Workshop brought together dental professionals to explore the fundamentals of suction, refine impression techniques and put their knowledge into practice.

From understanding the science to mastering the finer details, each session was designed to connect clinical knowledge with hands-on learning.

A big thank you to @drschzannechoo and all our enthusiastic participants for an engaging first day! 💗

And we’re not done yet…

Up next: Day 02 — Beyond the Basics.

If I was asked what has been the biggest game changer in materials I have changed to over the years in practice, it would have to be @kulzergb alginoplast. When supported with @kemdentuk’s compound, greenstick and wax, it is simply unrivled when compared to many other alginates I have used over the last 23 years in practice. The detail is incredible and flows like no other alginate, and it isn’t expensive! Thanks @kulzerphil for supplying me and thanks @mike_gregory_dentures for introducing me to it. When doing a lot of removable pros cases having a great quality alginate is essential. 🫡

🥾 Another Case Kickstarted 🥾

A new case for a lovely lady with an upper complete and lower partial

As ever it’s all about the build to start, getting as much information as possible to begin allows @sjh_prosthetics to make me the best possible trays

This is why I’m always aiming for over extension to see all the land marks, good and bad!

This three step technique allows me to quickly and easily capture any upper edentulous impression

It’s all about repeatability!

We teach this and much more on our primary impression course (looking forward to getting back to Bath next weekend!) with our final courses for the year already sold out

Dean and I also cover anatomy and impressions as part of our full day lecture series which has availability in person in London and online in November if you want to get a head start on your cases before the new year!

$Impression compound can be reheated by your technician. This means they can avoid fracturing off teeth from the cast. Try that with PVS putty 😏.$

Still struggling with complete dentures — even after years of doing them? 🦷

Poor retention.
Unstable dentures.
Patients coming back.
And that feeling of “I followed the steps… so why didn’t it work?”

The answer isn’t more theory alone.
And it isn’t hands-on without understanding.

It’s knowing WHY every step matters — and being able to reproduce it clinically.

At ÄSD Suction Denture, we take you through the complete journey:

IMPRESSION → BORDER MOULDING → MMR → SUCTION

You’ll learn the concepts.
You’ll practise the techniques.
You’ll understand the clinical reasoning behind them.

But most importantly…

We don’t leave you after the workshop.

When you start your first ÄSD case and suddenly think,
“Dr… is this impression okay?” 😂

Send it.

When the suction isn’t what you expected — ask.

When you finally achieve it — show us. ❤️

Because the goal isn’t just to finish a 2-day course.

The goal is for you to go back to your clinic and actually DO your first ÄSD.

📅 17–18 October 2026
📍 Apex Digital Lab, Kuala Lumpur
🔥 RM2,999 until 30 September only

After that, this rate is gone.

Can you correct it?
And most importantly… can you reproduce the result?

📌 Save this for the next time you’re faced with one tooth still standing.

Taking a complete denture impression around a single remaining tooth can be awkward, especially when there’s an undercut involved.

This is how I approach it using an edentulous stock tray, compound and an Alginoplast wash.

The important bit is creating enough space around the tooth. You need a good well around it, with enough room for the Alginoplast to flow around the tooth and flex over its widest point on removal.

Not a fan of compound? You can use putty instead. The same principle applies. Create the space you need and make sure your wash material has room to do its job.

Done properly, you can still capture all that lovely detail without locking the impression in.

And yes, you can use the same principle for lowers too. Just keep an eye on the stability of that tray handle 👀

For more impression taking tricks like this, check out the @impressionclub_courses . @dentistrupert , @mike_gregory_dentures @dr.steph.smile run a brilliant hands on impression taking day where you can actually practise these techniques rather than just read about them.

One of those tricks worth saving before you need it 🦷
