You would’ve been 70 today and I’m truly unsure how I will make it through the day with a brave face for the kids.

I feel like so many of our years together were taken. It feels so unfair. I miss you so much the pain is unbearable at times.

I can’t thank God enough for giving us the years we did have. The way you showed up as a grandpa healed a part of me that I thought was already fixed. You loved me regardless of my imperfections and I, you. Thank you for teaching me patience, love and how to always see the best in everyone. You had a heart of gold. I see so much of you in me, and I carry you with me everywhere I go.

I miss your listening ear. I miss your unfiltered advice. I miss your encouragement even if you were having a rough time yourself. I miss your dad jokes. I miss our FaceTimes on your front porch. I miss waking up to your breakfast. I miss your pressure cooker and the magic that came outta that thing 😆.

The kids miss you. They miss you so much, Dad. They miss you so much that it makes me miss you more.

I’m glad you’re no longer in pain. I’m glad you’re not hurting or struggling with anything. I know you’re resting and I know I’ll see you again. What I’m unsure of is how much pain I’ll be in until that day comes.

I’ll keep praying to God for strength on these hard days.

Today is your day and I know you would want me to wipe my tears, play some good music & enjoy the day with people I love so that’s just what I’ll do. In honor of you.
