The Stratford Festival Playwright’s Retreat, the gift of 3 weeks to cover the very freshly painted white walls of my living cube in post-its, walk the river with friends made in the program, watch the musicals as many times as I can, share writing waaaay before it’s ready, find what looks like my dad’s handwriting backstage, and encounter many previous versions of myself colliding with this one. Because I grew up here, did you know? Finding a new way to come home is so rare. An absolute contender for one of my favourite times of life.

Adapting to our environment is one of the beauties of creating outdoor theatre, and of course, sometimes, it rains outside. To keep our By Fire series going during inclement weather/indoor performances, or when provincial burn restrictions prevent open fires, we had to adapt. Our technical director, John Thomson, created an artificial fire set piece that we use to keep that fiery glow burning for our evening performances! While an artificial fire won't give off any heat, it still immerses us in the timeless tradition of telling stories in the dark. Just 2 weeks left of our 2026 season! If you haven't made the trip up to see The Monkey's Paw yet, you have just two more weeks before the show closes. Many patrons and guests of Ross Creek often see Chris — Executive Director of Ross Creek Centre for the Arts — depicted in a very different light... literally. "Chris O'Neill is a stand-out as Bethany, the mother who makes an incredible demand on her husband in a riveting scene" - Audience Member Chris and the entire company can't wait to see you at the show between now and Saturday, August 15 when our season comes to a close! Immigration stories are part of Canada's story. They are stories of courage, sacrifice, separation, and the hope of building a new life. While destinations and circumstances may change, the emotions remain remarkably familiar. Inspired by the real correspondence between an Irish husband and wife during the Great Famine, Emma Donoghue's The Wind Coming Over The Sea is a stirring folk musical that reminds us that behind every migration is a deeply human story. Though rooted in 19th-century Ireland, its themes continue to resonate with immigrant experiences that have shaped, and continue to shape, communities across Canada. As one reviewer describes: "The Wind Coming Over The Sea explores the universality of love and loss with a beautiful poignancy... in beautifully harmonized Irish songs from romantic ballads to toe-tappers to tragic laments" Join us under the open sky at Ross Creek this summer for this moving celebration of resilience, hope, and the enduring power of love across oceans. 🎟️ Tickets available now at twoplanks.ca Photo: Sophie Schade, Lily Falk, and Tim Machin in The Wind Coming Over The Sea.
