Dear Son,

I promise to love you unconditionally. I promise to support you and guide you through life. I promise to be your biggest fan/cheerleader through all your successes and failures. I pray that you’re not afraid to cry or share your emotions. Don’t let your ego get in the way of who you genuinely are. Follow your gut but ultimately let God guide you through life. No matter how strong you are, I can handle your pain. Please don’t be afraid to bring it to me. I will forever worry because that’s what a mother does, but I promise to try and give you space to make mistakes, figure out the man you want to be, and explore what this crazy world has to offer. Don’t allow others to tell you who you are or how you should be. You are enough. You will always be enough. In all your strength, there is love. Don’t be afraid to lead with love. Always ask questions, stay curious, and never stop learning. Laugh all the time. Don’t take yourself or your job too seriously unless you’re a brain surgeon, then please do take that seriously. Life is too short not to find humor in the everyday. Make sure you’re not too busy trying to be cool that you lose the joy of being silly. God loves you, your family loves you, and there’s nothing you can do to change that. You are created for a reason. You are the biggest gift to me and this world. Sonny Joseph Lockett, I cannot wait to learn from you. I cannot wait to see who you become and the amazing things you do in your life. I love you with all my heart and soul!
