Kaylee: Did you sing FOR YOU at Ta'hon & Shawnta's wedding?

Me: Yes, I did!

Kaylee: I was too young! LOL! Did [cell] phones even record back then?

I’m asking because the song popped up in my head for whatever reason a couple of days ago and it was very nostalgic. I remembered you singing it and thinking you were the best singer ever, but I couldn’t remember whose wedding it was. I visually saw the church, you singing everything but who the bride & groom were!

Thank you, cousin @thoroughbred_k for one of the greatest compliments I've received! I typically don't think about children being touched or moved by the songs I sing. But you've reminded me how much of a blessing it is to sing and have children be moved as well.

Truly grateful that you recall my rendering of #ForYou by @kennylattimore that I sang for @tahon.king & @mrs.shawnteking 's #wedding, and how it's left an indelible impression on you.

Today, I'm reminded that our lives as an extension of our families and communities are not our own. My "Aunt Nonie"--centered in this photo we took several years ago when she and her husband, @kendsjeans, came to visit me and family here in Arizona--and I were ten years and ten days apart in birth years here on earth. Most recently, the thing that sticks with me now is how adamant I am about keeping her memory, at least in my own head, alive.

The recent article I wrote, where I interviewed @chefmama13 of @exquisite.catering, had much to do with keeping the memory of my "Aunt Nonie" alive. My fascination with focusing on a talented chef I've been blessed to know was deeply inspired by my "Aunt Nonie" and Uncle @kendsjeans. I knew that not only her final years on earth were spent caring for and tending to others with her "exquisite" meals, @cheflatay_ catering, and the southern, down-home joy and love that accompanied them, but also her life in the most general sense was her love of food--or maybe it was her belief in the power of food to "move mountains". The power of food as an instrument of or that which makes hearts, minds, and stomachs ready to receive the "fruit of the Spirit" (Gal. 5:22-23) is a miraculous force of who we are and can become.

So, "Yes!", I'm grateful for the opportunity and favor to have written a wonderful story about my friend's journey and experiences, being one of 14 chefs who catered Renaissance World Tour by @beyonce, but if you REALLY want to know what REALLY drove me to take such an interest in the story more deeply, even at the subconscious level of my being, it would have to do with the legacy of my "Aunt Nonie" and "Grammy" that would prompt such a beckoning of my soul.

As always, I would love to hear about the people and things that REALLY move you, to do what you do! All things in confidence, unless permission is given otherwise! Happy "Heavenly" birthday, Aunt Nonie!
