Honestly, we're just friends: a note after the evening

There was an air of openness and comfort. It was interesting because it was the kind that doesn't always exist in familiar spaces. We glided around the room taking a moment each to see & hear someone, and to be seen & heard. The shared vulnerability of putting ourselves out there to do so only made it more intimate. Platonic romance.

I had the privilege of working with the incredible Olukemi Lijadu @kemkemlij on Feedback (2026), her largest institutional film installation to date, a dual-channel work tracing the movement of sound, rhythm and memory across the Black Atlantic.

Developed through research across Lagos, Chicago and Bristol, the film moves between embodied performance, archival resonance and experimental image-making. A sculptural sound installation extends the work spatially, drawing on Bristol’s sonic histories to amplify the reverberations of Black cultural continuity.

Storyboarding the film became another way of thinking about image-making for me, through rhythm, sequencing and the movement between still and moving images. (Excerpts in Slide 1.)

I’m grateful to have also contributed to the production of the project and remain deeply thankful to @kemkemlij for her trust and mentorship, as well as to the team whose care and collaboration brought this important work into being.

*Feedback*, curated by @clementineproby , is currently on view at @spikeisland , Bristol, closing tomorrow.

last year i was blessed with the opportunity to be the assistant director of this beautiful film by @kemkemlij called Feedback, got to work and learn with the coolest team and reconnect with music, dance, reclamation, freedom, memory, legacy, the Black Atlantic, ancestral feedback enta anoda feedback.
getting to shoot at the point of no return, badagry beach was a very spiritual and political moment i return to every now and then to challenge my purpose as an artist, this film is no joke, it’s important and i’m grateful for it.
the film is now on show at @spikeisland in bristol and here are some images from the bts, the installation space and the film itself.

Baptized By Fire (@bbf.mov) directed by Kach Offor (@1kspeaks) is a wonderful film made by some really good friends and filmmakers. I had the opportunity to serve as a creative consultant on it in 2023. It’s showing at the African Film Festival NY @africanfilmfest on the 28th of May at Brooklyn Academy of Music (B.A.M.) Rose Cinemas. I encourage you to get tickets!
