🎃 Haunting season (swipe for the joy!) w/ @kennapzok!

I finally made it to Knott’s Scary Farm— we did seven haunted mazes and went on all the spinning rides my lil brain could take.

A trip to Toluca Lake and Burbank to stroll through the decorated neighborhoods

and finally a surprise trip to a CA suburban Pumpkin Patch.

💀 Last year when i arrived in CA i didn’t really get to celebrate or do much for halloween since i was driving 5 hours a day to work, super tired, and didn’t have many friends close by at the time.
🤍This year my dearest man made up for that x1000 with all the halloween treats i could take.
For a guy who doesn’t really celebrate halloween or horror, he sure as fuck showed up for me to make sure i did.

Started my career in show business wandering the campus of the University of Minnesota putting up fliers for our weird theater/comedy shows with a T-50 staple gun. This week, I relived those days by putting up posters for the two live screenings in LA of our weird horror film @deadmediamovie. Younger me would be ECSTATIC that 1) I made a feature film 2) I could afford to print color posters 3) I lived in the same neighborhood as the apartment building from Swingers.

Anyway, screening info:

Oct 17 - 4 pm at @whammyanalogmedia with Q&A moderated by @kennapzok
Oct 23 - 7:30 pm at @eastwoodpac with Q&A moderated by @lasertheboy

And announcements about Dead Media’s streaming debut coming very soon…

⬅️I had a great time at the @lucasmuseum with prominent Lucas historian, and general badass, @kennapzok.

I’ve shared some of my favorite art pieces here, yet, i also want to focus on how it truly feels like it’s been created for the people.

Lucas has branded this as The People’s Art, and based on the pricing, the accessibility, and just the community feeling around it, it truly stands by his mission with something for everyone.

I think working with original art and memorabilia for over a decade has me spoiled/numbed as most of the artists that are housed in the museum i’ve seen their original art before so nothing truly blew my mind. But I love art, always, and enjoyed sharing it with my special dude.
however; what i really appreciated was seeing so many others get to experience the same joys i’ve felt viewing original Rockwell, Lyendecker, Wyeth, Hildebrandt, Barnes, Sendak, and more for the first time.

While there is a room of cinematic art that is mostly Star Wars stuff, i was pleasantly surprised that the museum itself wasn’t overly saturated with just SW.

I just adore, ADORED! the overall grounds and the public park that is free to enjoy right next to the museum. There’s so much outdoor seating and plenty of space to make it a day of art and reading.
And if you like reading, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art library offers a range of books from art, history, cinema, science, photography, comics, SFX, and more with plenty of seating to read indoors.

We walked around for about four hours (taking a lunch in between) and still didn’t see everything, one could easily spend about eight hours of exploring.
if you do decide to have lunch there, the onsite cafe isn’t bad— we had two waters, a tea, a soda, a big slice of cheese pizza, a plain hamburger and fries for under $33.00.
Next time i’ll scope out Skywalker Grill when it’s not fully booked up.

overall it’s such a delightful area and i hope that anyone who wants to visit it gets to. I highly recommend its impressive and alternative offerings.

I’ve been a fan of Kristian Harloff for years. He’s given me countless hours of entertainment simply by loving what he loves, sharing that enthusiasm honestly, and inviting the rest of us along for the ride.

Now he’s taking a swing on something of his own.

Kristian and his team are crowdfunding TRENDING, an original comedy pilot about relevance, reinvention, relationships, and the strange intersection between our lives and the content we create from them.

There’s something really beautiful about watching someone who has spent years championing other people’s stories finally bet on one of his own.

So if you’ve followed Kristian over the years, believe in independent creators, or simply want to see more original stories given the chance to exist, I really recommend checking out the TRENDING Kickstarter.

No grand sales pitch. I just think good people taking creative swings are worth knowing about.

And this is one I’d really love to see land. 💚🎬

There are people who tell you what everyone loves
and people who tell you what they do
Kristian always seemed to understand
the second one is how you find the first one true

He made a life of giving a damn
about movies, stories, galaxies far away
and somehow, through all that talking about art
became part of our stories along the way

Because enthusiasm is generosity
to love something loudly is to leave the door wide
And Kristian spent years saying, “Come sit with me
There’s something incredible on the other side.”

So here’s to the guy with the microphone
the movie debates, the laughter, the lore
who taught us that loving a thing without irony
might be what loving is for

And now that he’s betting on something himself
I hope he knows what his audience knows
You spend your life championing stories
and eventually
we start championing yours #trending #kristianharloff #schmoesknow #movietriviaschmoedown #kickstarter
