When I first found out I was pregnant, I was in the middle of my dietetic internship and masters program. I honestly thought I would have to postpone my degree because how could one survive both motherhood and a thesis? But my support system came through big time- professors, husband, parents, siblings, grandma, friends, and running buddies- and made it possible. I defended my thesis at 33 weeks pregnant and brought Micah to classes starting when he was 9 weeks old. To have him walk across the stage with me was so surreal. We did it buddy!! Next up ➡️ starting as an RDN at Wooster Community Hospital on Monday 🍎🥑💕

As AmeriCorps Week comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the power of service and the impact that strong community partnerships can create. 🌱
Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported our Roots and Sprouts event at Sunbeam School! LeaderCorps members Jaiden and Willow partnered with Sunbeam staff and our friends at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to bring gardening and nutrition education to our community. From painting ceramic pots to learning smoothie-making techniques and taking home gardening kits, it was an event full of learning and creativity.
We’re so grateful to have connected with ~30 participants and want to give a special thank you to Principal Humphrey, Ms. Berry, Ms. Cindy, and the entire Sunbeam team for helping make this event possible. Moments like these remind us how meaningful national service can be in strengthening our communities.
Also a thank you to Mia Duff from healthy Harvest corps/greater Cleveland. Tony Cirino, student at Kent state becoming a registered dietician (KSU DI), working at GCFB. Chloe Isner, healthy harvest corps/second harvest food bank and Zale Piepho, from Crown Point Ecology Center/GCFB volunteer.
