Amazing evening last night with Brooklyn neighbors @kenyabrome and @eldridgegilbert3 and tens of other fellow @brownu alumni at the NYC #ipc25 anniversary soirée last night in this Iconic #gildedage level grand building. So amazing to hear stories from the Black alumni of my alma mater who paved the way for my era and the next generation who we passed the baton to!

Declious catering by @kemited_kitchen_ who have made many happy meals for my family over the years. Truly an evening of #blackexcellence supporting diversity in academia. Fight on #brownuniversity

From the archives (2020): Kenya, an actor, on her stoop in #BedStuy.

"I am thankful for and proud of the protests against the murder of unarmed Black people. I am dismayed that these protests are still needed in 2020; and that we as Black people still have to fight to prove our humanity and right to life and equality. WE need to take it to the streets, the ballots, and up in their proverbial faces to quote the Sam Cooke song, “A Change ‘Gon Come.” IT BETTER. Improvement; Not just CHANGE.

I am an actor in TV, Film, Theater, and Voice-Overs. My industry is shut down with almost no pandemic prospects. I have a radio spot that is still airing, and I shot a TV show right before COVID, but I can’t conceive of how we will be able to resume performing WITH other people when the pandemic passes. What about wearing face shields that they digitally remove?! Get on that, SAG-AFTRA!! I hope we all find a way.

Personally, I withdrew and retreated into my home with my cat, only venturing out with my PPE for grocery and gardening runs. The loneliness and isolation is heavy. Knowing that my parents are well and close by is a great relief; but not knowing what the near future holds is scary. I have friends who have lost family members to COVID. The plague and the ‘powers that be’ are snatching people. We have to support each other, and maintain our connections. Life is so fragile. Freedom is fragile.

My network of great friends check-in with, inform and entertain each other on the interwebs. I am very glad that I was able to partake of the free COVID Testing offered by @nygovcuomo @nycmayor and @northwellhealth. That made me feel a little less helpless. My neighbors are fantastic and make sure we are all still standing through all of this. Prayer helps.”

I am so honored to have been chosen to host the artist talk back closing night at #nyadiff film festival for “A Brother’s Whisper”, written, produced and directed by Jacinto Riddick. A powerful and provocative piece that is beautiful to watch. I am proud to have been associated with this film. I didn’t know my name was appearing in the credits the first time I saw it. Jacinto surprised me. Feel like you can see my joy. Forever grateful. 🙏🏾 (^.^)
