We recorded and mixed the score to Ava DuVernay’s 14th, and watching it premiere at NYFF was phenomenal. 🎬 Thank you @thejasonmoran for trusting The Bridge Studio team with something this extraordinary. Your musical choices gave the film so much life, and seeing it all come together was beyond words. Huge shoutout to @amon_drum for a tremendous job spearheading the recording and mixing the score. Hearing it against such an important film by the genius that is @ava was something I’ll never forget. To our recording team, @urosh, @yeonh_o3 , and @greg_tock : thank you. Seeing our studio and this team in the big screen credits is a feeling none of us will forget! And celebrating with @chiarafasi, who slayed on violin on the score and of course @kenyattabeasley of our studio fam made the night even sweeter. We’ve worked on aspects of scores before, but never from start to finish like this. We can’t express how special this is for our studio. 14th hits Netflix in November. Please see it. It’s an important film. 🙏 #14th #AvaDuVernay #NYFF #thebridgestudio #FilmScoring

I played a lot of gigs and recordings and had a bunch of late night hangs with @casey_benjamin. We became family the day we met. He’s definitely one of the defining voices of modern jazz saxophone. Everyone he took a solo you felt like you were about to be launched into space. Happy Birthday Bruh!

KENYATTA BEASLEY arrived in New York in 1994 to attend the prestigious Mannes School of Music where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Jazz composition and Performance. Cutting through the clutter of New York City’s musical landscape, Beasley’s innovative sound led to his first break: he joined Lauryn Hill to record and support the tour of her multi-platinum album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill — through which he accompanied a range of musical acts: Shakira, Wyclef Jean, Fantasia, Chaka Khan, the Wu Tang Clan, P. Diddy, Usher, Carlos Santana, Gloria Gaynor and Gladys Knight. Since, he has been a highly sought-after musician in too many bands to name. Beasley is also a film composer, having composed the score for the film Earnie, which won the NYU/New York Magazine First Run Film Festival award for Best Original Score and also was a finalist at Sundance. The success of Earnie caught the ear of Quincy Jones who hired him as a contributor to the underscore on Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. He then went on to win Best Original Score at the Brooklyn Arts Council Film Festival for another short film, Heroes Wanted. The trumpeter has composed the scores for short films such as Jeffrey’s Calypso, Dentist Visit, Heart Attack and the award-winning Pariah. His first solo, full-length film score was written for a Vivica A. Fox film, Three Can Play That Game .He also returned to touring on the Mary J. Blige/Jay-Z “Heart of the City” jaunt.

Something is coming. I’m not quite ready to tell you what it is yet. But I can say that I recently stepped into a room with some extraordinary musicians and creatives, and we made something that feels deeply special. My gratitude to Hofstra University for opening its doors to this project and creating the space for us to explore. And to this incredible team: Nate Jones — Bass Andre Chez Lewis — Piano Chris Eddleton — Drums Filippo De Laura — Engineer Kenyatta Beasley Thank you for bringing your artistry, instinct, and generosity into the room.

At rehearsal, we play through the arrangement and talk about the road map, play it down, make adjustments, do a little more…but some doesn’t feel right. @miltonsuggs shouts out, “so we’re just not gonna do the THIRD VERSE?!” Everyone immediately jumped on board, hell yeah we gotta do the third verse!! This is some footage of the third verse when Milton and Brianna make you really feel what this song is about! 🙌🏽 Before I Let Go - Maze featuring Frankie Beverley Arranged by Anthony Hervey, Featuring Milton Suggs and Brianna Thomas
