Bridget Brink ’91, who served as the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine for nearly three years during its ongoing war with Russia, returns to Kenyon this month as the College’s inaugural expert-in-residence.

In town for nearly two weeks from Oct. 18-29, Brink will visit classes, lecture on a wide range of topics, meet with students one-on-one, offer career advice, and fully incorporate herself into campus life.

The partially donor-funded program was created to bring distinguished alumni and parents to campus to spend extended time with students, formally and informally. It involves classroom teaching, public panels, small-group conversations and more.

Students in Associate Professor Leah Dickens’s PSYC 231 course, Positive Psychology, focus on the aspects of life that tend to help individuals and communities flourish. They discuss emotions, character traits and institutions, and how these influence the good life, and study empirical literature on positive psychology, including points of conflict and avenues for future research.

You are invited to join Leah, along with professor Laura A. King ’86, during the Kenyon Women’s Conference for “Life of Meaning: Noticing Happiness”, a positive conversation about how to recognize happiness and build a meaningful life. This event will take place on Saturday, October 24 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the Community Foundation Theater at The Gund.

Kenyon has been recognized in a pair of prestigious college rankings, including earning the highest possible rating for financial aid from The Princeton Review.

President Julie Kornfeld said the distinction is a result of a commitment to make the College accessible and affordable.

“Ensuring that every talented student who would thrive here is able to attend regardless of their finances is one of our core values,” she said. “Thanks to the commitment of our Board of Trustees and the generous support of alumni and others who share this priority, we have been able to increase our aid to students dramatically over the past seven years.“

Washington Monthly acknowledged the College’s value in a different way. Kenyon ranked No. 14 on its list of “Best Colleges for Your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars: Midwest.”

Tennis players come from all over the country and the world to compete as part of Kenyon’s NCAA Division III team, which has won three NCAA team titles, four individual championships in singles and doubles play, and 22 NCAC titles. But more than the wins, players will tell you it’s the community they find on the court that is most meaningful: the coaches, their teammates, the time they spend together.

Paulo and Shadia show us around Jasper Tennis Center — surfaced with the same material used at Arthur Ashe Stadium — and the outdoor courts. They share why these courts are their second home at Kenyon. 🎾
